William H. Cockerell

William H. “Bill” Cockerell, 70, passed away on January 21, 2017 in Richmond from complications due to cardiac arrest. He leaves his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Ponder Cockerell; his daughters, Leisa Cockerell Sanchez and husband Joe, Vicki Cockerell Grace and husband Geoff and Ashely Cockerell Duet and husband Chad; 3 grandchildren, Austin and Montana Cortez and Cole Sanchez and extended family and close friends. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Hugh and Alta Cockerell and his sister, Cakey Cockerell Bowman. Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 7, 1946 but moved to Wilson, Oklahoma at six months old. Wilson, Oklahoma was his home all of his young life until he attended college at Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma. In 1970 Bill and Sharon moved to Houston to start their new adventure in the pipe and tobacco industry as owners of Pipe Pub where they owned 35 stores across Texas and Louisiana. For 20 years they owned and operated their stores and traveled around the U.S. and abroad learning how to prefect their craft. Bill was a true business leader which led him to owning nightclubs in Dallas and Victoria as well as a restaurant in Houston. For the last fifteen years, they’ve made their home in Richmond, where Bill was in internet sales at Gillman Honda until his retirement in 2016. More than anything he cherished his time with his wife, daughters and especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. You could always find Bill and Sharon sitting in the stands cheering on the grandkids at every sporting event. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Ivan Mefford and all the ICU nurses at Oak Bend Medical Center for all of their dedicated care. Bill, our beloved husband, dad, and Papa will forever be in our hearts and his legacy will live within us forever. A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at Faith United Methodist Church; 4600 F.M. 359 Rd, Richmond, Texas 77406.
