Wandalene W. Ferguson

Wandalene W. Ferguson was born March 21, 1926 to Charlie C. and Estelle Coker Walters in Livingston, Texas. She passed way December 26, 2006 at Memorial Health Systems of East Texas in Lufkin, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 A. M., Saturday, December 30, 2006 at CrossRoad Assembly of God Church with interment at East Bernards First United Methodist Cemetery. Brother Fred Chambers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M., Friday, December 29, 2006 at CrossRoad Assembly of God Church. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1943 and attended Southwestern Bible Institute and Sam Houston University graduating in 1957. She taught first grade for 25 years - 1 year in Hungerford, 3 years in East Bernard, and 21 years in Orchard School District. She retired in 1986. Wandalene and James William Ferguson were wed August 25, 1957 in Livingston, Texas and made East Bernard their home. Jim and Wanda were cornerstones in each church they attended with the most recent years being at CrossRoad Assembly of God in East Bernard. She is preceded in death by her husband, James William Ferguson; parents, Charlie C. and Estelle Walters; sister, Dorothy Fae McAlister; and special nephew-in-law, Max Taylor. She is survived by her niece, Sandra Henderson and husband, Bill, of Pennington, Texas; great nephews, James Jamie Henderson and wife, Jennifer, of Nacogdoches, William Bubba Henderson of Pearland; great nieces, Rebecca Becky Henderson of Houston, Kathy Taylor of Lake Jackson, Mary Zambada of Angleton, and Marty Lewis of Hudson and their children; several cousins, church family and many friends. Jim and Wanda were some of the original couples to help locate and organize Jims World War II Army Buddy reunions. She still exchanged Christmas cards with some of the buddies family members. They enjoyed traveling to visit them and attending the reunions. She was always delighted to see former students. She was an inspiration to young and old alike. She treasured her lunch bunch friends - a group of ladies who ate lunch together 6 days a week in East Bernard and sometimes traveling to Rosenberg, Wharton, Sealy or wherever they thought might have a good tea room or restaurant. They also enjoyed going to the Methodist Church to play games with friends. Wandalene spent a lot of time with Sandra and Bill in Pennington where she had made lots of friends. She enjoyed going to the Pennington Game Night and other activities at the Community Center, going out to celebrate birthdays with a group of their friends, and attending church with them. She liked the fun times when Sandra and Bills children were home and they had a family gathering. She had lots of good times when she and Sandra and Bill met in Livingston for a Cousins Day to celebrate birthdays with Wilbur Lee and Bill, Robbie and Brosig, Jerutia, and other Turner family descendents and going to the annual Walters family reunion. She had many aliases - Lendy, Lindy, Nana to close family. Aunt Wanda to Sandras friends, Wandalene to others. She was also known as The Cookie Lady, once having her picture in the East Bernard Tribune with a write up about her much requested oatmeal cookies. She was known as Granny to her church family. The Childrens Crusade at CrossRoad Assembly was a very exciting time to her. She had also served as Childrens Sunday School Teacher. She loved children and even though she had none of her own, she was also known as Mom. Most important of all, she was a Proverbs Woman. She had recovered from her surgery and was looking forward to going back to her home in East Bernard the day after Christmas when illness struck her and she was hospitalized. She went home the day after Christmas - to her heavenly home.
