Walter J. Meyer

Funeral services for Walter J. Meyer, 88, of Rosenberg will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rosenberg with Rev. Claude Villemaire officiating. Interment, with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Walter was born on January 27, 1923 in Rosenberg to Walter A. and Edna Meyer and was called home to be with his Lord on August 16, 2011. He served proudly in World War II where he met his English bride of 67 years. Walter retired from Houston Lighting and Power to enjoy his scouting, family and trips to England. He was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Boy Scouts, Pack 1309, Pack 309 and Troop 309 which he had been involved in for 50 years. Walter actively participated up until the day he went into the hospital. He was a member of American Legion Post 271 and the V.F.W. Post 3903. Walter was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dalbert Lee. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Gladys; daughter and beloved son in- law, Donna and Lloyd Ferguson; grandson , Lloyd Walter Reed Ferguson and wife, Beatrice; granddaughter, Jackie and husband, Raul Ramirez; and three precious great grandchildren which were the light of his life Savannah, Hannah, and Madeline Ramirez. Walter is also survived by a sister, Irene Warren and nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1208 5th Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Bend Medical Center and special friends Marian Wright, Dorothy Rogge, Dorothy Holcombe and Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Vyvial for their support and comfort during his lengthy illness. Pall Bearers will include Bob Ray, Weldon Faucett, Mike Martin, Greg Villanueva, Stephen Ray and Nathan Seiler.
