Viola Janda

Viola Sophie Janda, 99, who was fondly known as “Aunt Vi”, passed away on November 25, 2025. She was born on May 14, 1926, to Frank and Lillie (Rainosek) Janda. Viola was a devoted Catholic and a member of the KJZT Society in Needville and the Catholic Daughters of America Organization. Vi graduated from Richmond High School. She received a diploma from Southwestern Business School. She worked as a secretary and retired from Deloitte Haskins and Sells, after 34 years. Vi was reared on a farm where she learned to garden, cook, sew and work in the cotton fields. She was an excellent seamstress and wonderful cook. She was family oriented and cared deeply for her family. Vi was very caring and generous. She contributed to many charities over the years. She moved from Houston to Rosenberg to be a caregiver for her father and carpooled to her job in downtown Houston. She would often visit her sister, with six children, and help with housework and cooking. She assisted her brother when he moved to the house next door. Her hobbies were working jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, and working Sudoku puzzles. She was a big baseball fan and loved watching the Astros. She enjoyed trips to the casino with her brother and friends. She had good luck. In addition to her parents, Viola is preceded in death by her brother, Jerome Theodore “J.T.” Janda, sister, Henrietta Bates, sister-in-law, Dorothy J. Janda, and nephews, Bradford C. Bates and Preston Bates. Survivors include, nieces and nephews, Rosemary (Herbert Sr.) Pavlovsky of West Columbia TX, Philip (Joyce) Janda of Needville TX, Richard (Andrea) Bates of Spokane Valley, WA., Steve (Carlene) Bates of Manvel, TX; Valerie (Bubba) Sullins of Houston, TX; Roderick (Laura) Bates of Friendswood, TX; great nephew and nieces Brandon Bates of Sanford, FL; Britney Bates; Courtney (TJ) Fulmer, Tyler Bates, Herbert (Misha) Pavlovsky Jr. , Jared (Robin) Pavlovsky, Natalie (Nick) Nanez, Katie (Andrew) Edwards, and Kimmy Janda; along with extended great-great nephews, nieces, family and friends. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George Street in Rosenberg with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and Rosary at 10:30. Burial to be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg in Viola’s memory.
