Melvin Lloyd Blahuta

Melvin Lloyd Blahuta, 92, of Rosenberg, Texas passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. Melvin was born on June 21, 1933 to parents Rudolph and Rose Blahuta in Wallis, Texas. He graduated high school from Orchard High School in 1951. He enlisted into the Army in August 1954 and was stationed in El Paso, Texas and Long Island, New York. He was honorably discharged in August 1956. Melvin married the love of his life, Gaynell Freudensprung, on September 16, 1956. Together they had two children and enjoyed 69 years, 7 months of a wonderful marriage. He worked for Houston Lighting and Power, which later became Center Point Energy, for 36 years as a lineman, foreman, and assistant supervisor. He was a devoted member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, barbequing, camping, traveling in their motorhomes and most especially spending quality time with his family. This loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather will be dearly missed. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Rose Blahuta; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Florian Sliva Sr.; grandson, Joseph Michael Blahuta; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Agnes Freudensprung; brother-in-law, Wilbur Lee Freudensprung; and his nephew, Carlton Freudensprung. He is survived by his wife, Gaynell Blahuta; children, Renee Murphy (Pat) of Sweeny, Texas; and Bryan Blahuta (Heather) of East Bernard, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Murphy (Lauren) of Angelton, Texas, April Dunn (Greg) of West Columbia, Texas, Christopher Blahuta of East Bernard, Texas; six great grandsons, and sister-in-law, Bernice Freudensprung of Rosenberg, Texas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Rosenberg. Burial with military honors to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Pallbearers will be Travis Murphy, Christopher Blahuta, Greg Dunn, Florian Sliva Jr., Aaron Freudensprung, and Kenneth Sliva. Honorary pallbearers will include great grandsons, Tucker Murphy, Foster Dunn, Lochlyn Murphy, Parker Dunn, Ledger Murphy and Oliver Dunn. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Melvin may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1513 West Street in Rosenberg, Texas 77471 or to the Charity of your choice.
