Lora Hartfield

Lora Carroll Estes Hartfield passed away peacefully at Houston Hospice on August 12, 2012. Known to her family and friends as Carroll she was born in Talpa, Texas on March 2, 1930. Upon graduating from Talpa High School, she moved to Houston and attended business school. She eventually met and married Johnnie Leonard Hartfield in April 1951. Together, they had 3 daughters. The Hartfield family moved to Alvin in 1966 where she lived until early 2004. In 2004, she moved to The Meridian, a senior residence in Galveston. Carroll was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years before retiring in 1992. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Nancy Estes; brother, Coy; sister, Agnes Chloe Edgar; son-in-law, Edward G. Schmidt, Jr. Carroll is survived by one sister, Cleta Raye Graham of Pasadena; daughters, Deborah Agnes Schmidt of Galveston, Linda Raye Runyan and husband, Johnny of Manvel, and Nancy Marie Gavranovic of Hemphill; grandchildren, GySgt John Michael Austin, U.S.M.C., Judson Merrill Austin of Oceanside, Ca., Crystal Kay Schmidt of Galveston, Richard Russell Runyan of Manvel, Brandin Lee Gavranovic, and MaKayla Marie Gavranovic of Hemphill; great-grandchildren, Paige Rae Austin of Silverdale, Wa., Harli Rose Austin of Oceanside, Ca. and Colby Tyler Austin who is due to arrive in November; niece, Donna Raye Edgar; and nephew, Phil Edgar. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her memory to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation at www.toysfortots.org. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2012 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
