Josephine Z. Castillo

Josephine Zamora Castillo went to be with God on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Born in Hungerford, Texas, in 1922, she celebrated her 90th birthday on Monday, March 19th. Born to Teodoro Zamora and Matilde Cabrera, Josie was the ninth of eleven children. Having outlived all her siblings, she was proceeded in death by brothers Felix, Hernan, Teodoro, Jr., Trinidad and Estevan Zamora. Her sisters were Guadalupe Morales, Amalia Saenz, Juanita Zamora, Beatrice Martinez and Cesaria Sara Sosa. Josephine was married 56 years to Julius E. Castillo, who died in May 2002. She is now survived by their four children, Jane Garcia and husband, Elias, Julius, Jr. and wife, Scarlet, Joe Robert and wife, Virginia, and Connie Cardenas and husband, Rufus. She is also survived by grandchildren, Elias Lee Garcia, Jr., Christine Garcia Gonzales, John Edward Garcia, John Daniel Castillo, Miriam Elizabeth Castillo Bane, Tara Beth Jones Strine, Kristopher Cordell Castillo, Steven Anthony Castillo, Rachel Castillo, Josiann Cardenas and Brian Keith Cardenas. She had 12 great-grandchildren and a vast number of nieces and nephews from the Castillo, Morales, Saenz, Sosa and Zamora families. Both Julius, Sr. and Josephine came to be well known in the communities of Richmond and Rosenberg having worked for various local businesses before and during their marriage which included Mensik's Grocery Store, R&B Department and Weiner's Department Stores before finally becoming owners of their own janitorial service. They were faithful parishioners of Holy Rosary and St. John Fisher Catholic churches having been one of the original families to support the foundation of St. John Fisher in the early 1950's. The Castillo family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Odyssey Health Care – Hospice systems of Austin and Houston for the loving care they gave their loved one. Josie's life will be honored and celebrated with a funeral mass at 2 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2012 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Richmond with Father Manuel La Rosa-Lopez officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2012 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Richmond.
