George Nunez, Sr.

A funeral mass for George Nunez, Sr., 73, currently of Kingwood and formerly of Rosenberg, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. George, known as "PoPo" by his grandchildren, was born September 1, 1937 in Wharton to Nemencio Nunez and Paula Gomez Nunez. He enjoyed trips to the Louisiana casinos, collecting baseball caps and all sporting events, especially football. He retired from Randall's after working many years as a meat cutter. George passed away April 14, 2011 in Kingwood. George is preceded in death by his parents, Nemencio and Paula Nunez and brothers, Nemencio Nunez, Jr., Julian Nunez and Lon Nunez, Sr. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Leonor Salinas Nunez; children, George Nunez, Jr. and wife, Melody, Sandra Dubuque and husband, Jimmy, Brenda Nunez, Gary Nunez and wife, Rosie; brothers, Mike Nunez and wife, Adela, and Pete Nunez and wife, Juanita; grandchildren, Alayna Nunez, Kori Scruggs, Savannah Skrivanek, Amanda Cerrillo and husband, Terry, Elizabeth Neal and husband, Keith, Laura Nunez, Jonathan Dubuque and Anthony Dubuque; 4 great grandchildren; along with other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will include Joel Salinas, Jr., Paul Cedillo, III, Terry Cerrillo, Fred Nunez, Paul Nunez, Robert Nunez, Oscar Cedillo and Cesar Cedillo. Honorary pallbearers will include Mike Nunez, Pete Nunez and Richard Salinas. Donations may be made in memory of George to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Association of Texas, 1442 Kingwood Dr., Suite 241, Kingwood, Texas, 77339. The family wishes to thank all of George's physicians who gave him such wonderful care; most especially Dr. Schaeffer, Dr. Khoury, Dr. Tiu, Dr. Luu, Dr. Girgawy and Dr. Ortega. Our family would also like to give a special thanks to Kingwood Medical Center from the Department of Nursing to Maintenance, and Dietary to Housekeeping, they always treated him with the utmost respect and care.
