Esther Cerda Rodriguez

Esther Rodriguez passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on March 29, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born in Rosenberg, Texas on September 18, 1938 to Irene and Eutilio Cerda. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Rodriguez, her parents, sister Beatrice Page and brothers Raymond Cerda and Raymond Cerda. Esther is survived by her children Veronica Lyne and husband Richard, Jackie Scinto, Joseph Rodriguez and John Rodriguez; grandchildren, Carina, Thomas, Justin, Chris, Jason, Alex, Megan, Emily and Katie; great-grandchildren, Michael, Kailey, Gianna, Max, John and Arya; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends. Esther grew up in Rosenberg, Texas attending Lamar Consolidated High School. After graduating high school, she began her business career working as a secretary. After marrying Joe Rodriguez in 1959 they moved to Houston and raised their family. Esther spent over 4 decades working for various companies in the oil and gas industry before retiring as the Human Resources Manager for Oyo/GeoSpace. Her husband Joe, also worked in the oil and gas industry and throughout their lives spent many years traveling across the world making lifelong friends along the way. She was a loving wife and mother, and a devout Catholic. Esther led a wonderful life full of unselfish service to her family, church and friends. Everyone will remember her loving and nurturing nature. She was always ready to host holiday and life celebrations for family and friend and was “The Hostess with the Mostest”. Esther was one of those rare people who was always there when people were in need. If you were sick or in need of any kind of help, she was there. She showed her love with food and if you were lucky, you would get a pot of her special rice. She has a special place in many hearts. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life and she took great pleasure in being an active member of her parish community where she spent her retirement years volunteering at St. Francis de Sales for the St. Vincent de Paul Society until she could no longer serve due to her battle with Alzheimer’s. She is truly one of God’s special angels and will be dearly missed. Our mom, Esther lived with Alzheimer’s for 8 years. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative brain disease and the most common cause of dementia; an overall term describing a group of symptoms that cause a slow decline in memory, cognitive thinking and critical reasoning skills. Her disease progressed quickly and as she lost her memory of friends and loved ones, she never lost the kindness and gentleness of her soul. This terrible disease robbed her of the joyful years she so desperately wanted to spend with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren who affectionally called her Grandma Honey. We are at peace knowing that she is finally free from the bondage of her mind and the memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s. As we gather to say farewell to Esther, her legacy of love and kindness will continue to flourish as her memory will be kept alive in the hearts of the many who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, Texas on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church, 8200 Roos, Houston, Texas 77036 on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
