Dorothy Mae Pyka Pospisil

Dorothy Mae Pyka Pospisil 72, passed away on August 30, 2010 at her home after a long, valiant battle with cancer. She was born October 23, 1937 in Rosenberg Texas. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and her family brought her much joy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ignac and Louise Bartos Pyka; sister, Gertrude Pyka; brother, Raymond Pyka; sister-in-law, Carol Pyka; and brother-in-law, Vendelin B. Pospisil. Dorothy was a graduate of Holy Rosary Catholic School and a 1955 graduate of Lamar High School. She also went to Wharton County Junior College for 2 years. She was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society and at one time served on the Parish Council. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters, serving as Regent of the Holy Rosary Court #1476 and then serving as District Deputy of District 10. She was presented the "Top District Deputy" award for outstanding service and dedication in the years 1998-2000. She also received the "Woman of the Year" award in April, 2010 from the Galveston Houston Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 271 in Rosenberg and the Young at Heart Club. She worked at Lamar Consolidated ISD as a secretary in Food Service for thirteen years. She left Lamar and opened Dorothy's Gifts and Flowers where she worked until her retirement in 1993. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Herman B. Pospisil of Rosenberg; three sons, James A. Pospisil and his wife, Cynthia of Bryan, Robert W. Pospisil and Rhonda Bowlin of Rosenberg, and David R. Pospisil and his wife, Doris of Manvel; seven grandchildren, Audra Edgington and her husband, Ronald, of San Antonio, Christopher Trampota and his wife, Kim of Arizona, Franklin Pospisil and his wife, Jennifer, of Rosenberg, Misty Pospisil and Randy Matula of East Bernard, Austin Pospisil and his wife, Nikki Wheeler, of Woodisonville, WA, Jessica Pospisil and Martin Pospisil of Manvel; eight great-grandchildren, Candace Houchin of New York, Taylor, Jason and Jared Edgington of San Antonio, Christopher Trampota Jr. of Arizona, Reslyn Matula of East Bernard and Chelayne Pospisil and Chad Wheeler of Woodisonville, WA; brother, Wenslasus James Pyka and his wife, Inga of San Antonio; sister-in-law, June Pospisil of Houston, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Lonnie Garbade of Flatonia, and numerous other relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George Street in Rosenberg. Internment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Father William D. Bartniski will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and immediately afterwards, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will conduct a wake service. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital for their care as well as Dorothy's caregiver Mrs. Charlotte Rhemann, who assisted her so well during this time.
