Bernice LaNell Vickers

Funeral services for Bernice LaNell Vickers, 81, of Rosenberg, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Reverend Claude Villemaire will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Bernice was born July 29, 1929 in Milam County, Texas to Alfred Price and Nora Baggerly Price. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Rosenberg and recently was attending church at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rosenberg with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Bryan. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the V.F.W. Post #3903 and the American Legion Post #271. Bernice enjoyed playing Bingo and taking casino trips to Louisiana with her family. She enjoyed getting the whole family together for the holidays and was known by the grandkids as "Granny". Bernice, along with her husband, James, enjoyed trips to their cabin in Chinquepin. She was known to be an excellent cook, often sharing her recipes with family and friends. She even took that skill to work and was employed with the Richmond State School and later with Lamar CISD. Bernice went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 21, 2011 at Triumph Hospital in Sugar Land after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Arthur Vickers; her parents, Alfred and Nora Price; son, James Arthur Vickers, Jr.; two brothers and two sisters. Bernice is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Matus and husband, J.C., of Texas City and Barbara Bryan and husband, Joseph of Richmond; grandchildren, Leigh Ann O'Leary and husband, Aaron, of Cypress, Kevin Street and wife, Deanna of Houston; great grandchildren, Ethan O'Leary and Liam O'Leary, of Cypress ; sister, Doris Fields of Baytown; along with other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will include Tom Atkins, Scott Bryan, Jason Mendez, Delayne Rosenbaum, John Wile and Kevin Wile. Memorial donations may be made in Bernice's name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1208 5th Street, Rosenberg, Texas 77471.
