Shirley Pratt Murphree Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Pratt Murphree, 86 of Houston, Texas passed away on July 26, 2022, in Cypress, Texas. Born in Ector, Texas to Clarence and Lorie Pratt on September 19, 1935, she was raised in Houston as the only daughter among seven boys. She married Bill Murphree, on December 21, 1951, and together, they had two children Chris and Leah. As a successful career woman in many different industries, she always loved her work and the many friends she made along the way. Church work was a major component of Shirley’s life. She was actively a part of Almeda Baptist Church for the majority of her life – from working as the church finance director to serving as a youth sponsor and even playing in the church volleyball league. She later joined Houston Northwest and her church family was just as important as her biological family. She will be most remembered for her grace, elegance, faith in the Lord and unyielding commitment to her family. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Murphree, her son, Chris Murphree, her parents and brothers Ray, Jerry, Donnie, Larry, and Bobby. She is survived by her daughter Leah Gowin (Will); brothers Jimmy Wayne(Sherry) and Billy Dwight (Gloria); granddaughter Nichole Rhodes (William); great granddaughter, Logan Rose Colon and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved her. Visitation will be held on August 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral services will immediately follow. Dear friend Pastor Steven Brumbelow will officiate the service.
