September 23, 1931 - August 15, 2020
Sally Ann Rachuig Kelly entered blissful, eternal life with our Savior on Saturday, August 15, 2020 after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. She died at her home in Sugar Land with loving care from her family. She was born in Waco in 1931 to Mamie Adams and Herbert Rachuig. The Rachuig family moved to Sugar Land in 1932, where Herbert worked for Humble Oil and Refining at their camp south of Sugar Land on Oil Field Road. Sally and her older sister Mayme Ruth attended Sugar Land schools and graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1948 and 1949. Sally married Charles E. Kelly, Jr. on April 14, 1949 while Charles finished his degree at Texas A&M in College Station. Their first son, Charles Herbert (Chuck) was born in 1950. Their second son, Bruce Phillip, was born in 1952. Charles and Sally made their home in Sugar Land through their married life and Sally's widowhood after Charles died in 1990. Sally loved living in Sugar Land and enjoyed close friendships with many long-time residents. She enjoyed travel and visited places she never dreamed she'd ever see. She loved games, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku. Later in her life she watched Spanish language novellas and toward the end she switched to Asian television dramas. She spoke neither Spanish nor Korean, but she followed the story lines with ease. She never lost her sense of humor, even in the end when she struggled with cancer. Sally is survived by her sister, Mayme Rachuig Hause (Ray), sons Chuck and Bruce Kelly (Jane), plus grandchildren Ryan Kelly (Amy) and Lauren Kelly Arnold (Damian), great-grandchildren Chandler and Connor Kelly and Dylan and Audrey Arnold. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in her sister's family. A day will not pass that her family does not remember her, or husband Charles. The family is truly grateful for the support and sympathy from many, many friends and acquaintances. Given current conditions regarding public gatherings, her family will celebrate her past life and her new life in a private, grave-side ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your favorite charity, or the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation.
