April 7, 1945 - July 11, 2021
Mary Elaine Brasher, 76, went to her heavenly home on July 11, 2021 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Her devotion to her family and her faithful relationship with God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She was born to the late Walter and Leora Webb, in Fort Worth, TX on April 7, 1945. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. Here she began and nurtured her love of music and singing. She graduated in three years from Midwestern University with a Bachelor of Science and Education in 1966, then taught elementary school in Fort Bend County for 25 years. Elaine was blessed with a loving family. She married her best friend and fellow parishioner, Edward Lee Brasher, on July 29, 1966 in Wichita Falls, TX. Through their almost 55 years of marriage, they lived in various locations in the United States and West Germany where Ed’s army duties took them. After Ed left active duty, they settled in Missouri City, TX where they have lived for the last 42 years. Together they raised their three children with patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels. After retiring, Ed and Elaine enjoyed traveling to many destinations around the world together. With faithfulness and generosity, Elaine blessed those in her life. Whether through helping first graders learn to read or comforting many people through trials as a Stephen Minister or creating sewn pieces with the Stitchin’ Mission, she displayed her servant heart with grace and integrity. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. Elaine is survived by her husband, Ed; her children, Eric Brasher and his wife Meredith, Elysia Smith and her husband Charlie, and Erin Brasher; her sister-in-law, Carol Webb; her granddaughters, Katelyn and Keely Smith. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Webb; and her parents. Elaine will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow at First Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land. Reverend Dr. Fred Seay will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to support one of many ministries where Elaine served – Fort Bend Family Promise [fortbendfamilypromise.org] and East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry [humanneeds.org].
