Jean Frances Babineaux

JEAN FRANCES MCCORD BABINEAUX, a 93-year resident of Sugar Land, Texas, went home to be with her Lord on April 17, 2022. She went peacefully following a brief illness. Jean was born February 25, 1929 in Sugar Land. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Kelsey Joseph Babineaux; parents, John Weltmer and Hattie Lee Smith McCord; sisters, Emily Andre, Sammie Reading and Monnye Smith; and two brothers, Ralph S. McCord and John L. McCord. Jean is survived by her daughter, Lynell Laird (Tommy), son, Kelsey James Babineaux (Courtney) and son, Carroll Ray Babineaux (Cindy); ten grandchildren and their nine spouses; nineteen great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Williams of Sugar Land, sister-in-law, Barbara Pottschmidt of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and many dear nieces and nephews. Jean was the fourth of seven children born to John and Hattie Lee. Her life in small town Sugar Land was filled with many memories of family, friends and events. She graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1947 where she was a member of the Sugar Land Gator Band, Editor of “Splash”, member of the Commercial Club, Treasurer of her Senior Class, and voted Most Attractive Girl. For many years, Jean was a faithful pianist and organist at her home church, First Baptist Church Sugar Land. She was also a longtime member of Sugar Land Baptist Church, formerly Williams Trace Baptist Church. Funeral services for Jean are set for 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Sugar Land Baptist Church, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77479, with Joel Lowry officiating. Visitation with family will be at 1:30 p.m. preceding the funeral service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Rosenberg, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be James Babineaux, Ray Babineaux, Brandon Babineaux, Vance Townsend II, Pat White, and Joel David Smith. There will be a private interment following the service. The family would like to thank the staff of The Medical Resort Sugar Land and White Orchid Hospice for taking such precious and gentle care of Jean.
