Emma Mavis Carter

Emma Mavis Pickle Carter, 93 of Rosenberg passed away peacefully Friday evening February 27, 2009. Emma was born to Jesse and Annie Pickle on March 29, 1915 in Montalba, a community near Palestine, Texas. Emma married Wayne Edward Carter on September 14, 1935 in Fairfield, Texas. They lived in Palestine with their two children, Gerald and Wanda for 24 years. After living in Houston several years they moved to Rosenberg in 1977. Emma loved her family and friends and enjoyed traveling with tour groups. She also enjoyed planning and entertaining friends and family. Every year she would have special seasonal parties for her grandchildren and continued the tradition with the great grandchildren. She was a member of Eastern Star in Palestine and Rosenberg for 64 years, a member of AARP, an MD Anderson Volunteer, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years; her parents; her beloved son, Gerald Von Carter; grandson, Stephen Wayne Carter Barron and his wife, Carla Barron; sisters, Vivian Holcomb, Lillian Poppell Deel, Kittie Taylor Braswell, Winnie Yawn, Lena Self Scott, Retha Lee Oldham; brothers, Bradley Pickle, Wilborn Pickle and Jimmie Pickle. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Kolkhorst and husband, A.W. of Richmond; grandchildren, Kay Garrett and husband, Jim of Richmond, Kim Feldhoff and husband, David of Richmond, Joyce Glasglow and husband, Joe of Alabama, Greg Carter and wife, Amy of Alabama; brother, Bob Pickle and wife, Jennifer of Poynor, Texas; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Reid and Carley Garrett, Tanner and Carter Feldhoff, James and Ethen Glasglow, Sally Self and husband, Justin, Gregory Carter, Celest Taylor and husband, Jacob; great-great grandchild, Georgia Self; along with other family and friends. Pallbearers will include her nephews, Tony Self, B.W. Poppell, Arnold Poppell, David Poppell, Donald Taylor and Bobby Taylor. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church in Richmond, Choir Program or First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg, Youth & Choir Programs. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in the Stateroom of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
