August Chernosky was born August 2, 1922, in Sugar Land to Will and Clara Chernosky. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and continued to show his pride as a Veteran. He worked for Imperial Sugar Company for nearly 50 years, while also providing mowing services for Nalco and the City of Sugar Land for many years. August enjoyed working on lawn mowers and machinery, cooking on the pit, and spending time with his family. He loved to garden and watch his fruit trees grow. August was famous for being able to get any piece of equipment running, as well as having a green thumb. There was always a story or a joke he had to tell to keep everyone laughing and he never met a stranger. August passed away on August 20, 2021. He will be deeply missed by everyone. He is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae; parents, Will and Clara Chernosky; an infant son; sisters – Carrie Macek and Annie Bliss; brothers – Joe, Frank, Leon, Albert, and Jimmy; son-in-laws Lee Essman, Sr. and Melvin Mayhood. August is survived by his children, Shirley Essman, Linda Mayhood, and Darrell Chernosky and wife, Loretta; grandchildren: Lee Essman, Jr. and wife, Tara; RoxAnne Wyatt and husband, Terry; Kimberly Essman; Justin Mayhood and wife, Heather; brother, Tony Chernosky and wife, Mary; sister, Mary Smith; sister, Julie Willis; great-grandchildren: Emily Stevenson, Zak Snook, Dillion Chennault, Bailey Chennault, Katie Wyatt, Kylie Wyatt, Shane Essman, Zoe Essman, and Austin Mayhood; great-great grandchildren: Harbor Stevenson and Jaxon Sherrouse; along with many other relatives and friends. The family will gather for private service at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home. A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 at Morton Cemetery in Richmond. Pallbearers serving are Darrell Chernosky, Lee Essman, Jr., Justin Mayhood, Terry Wyatt, Dillion Chennault, Shane Essman and Austin Mayhood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Tributes and words of condolence may be left for the family at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com.
