Woodie Coppedge

Woodrow Woodie Coppedge passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the age of 69. He was born in Yoakum, Texas on August 13, 1941. Woodrow, "Woodie", as most knew him, was in the USAF and was retired from Santa Fe, Katy and Union Pacific Railroads. He worked as an Insurance Agent for the Knights of Columbus and was retired from the Xerox Corporation where he worked in San Antonio and Houston. Woodie loved golfing, traveling with his son and family to the Carribean and visiting his daughter and son-in-law and their family in Florida. He was a Master Gardner. He grew up in Hochheim and went to school in Sweethome where his mother taught school. He was a graduate of Kirwin High School in Galveston and had a degree from Galveston College. Woodie was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Bessie Lanik Coppedge. He is survived by his wife, Marcie Krovontka Coppedge; three sons, Woodrow, Jr. of Houston, Jim and his wife, Krista Gibson Coppedge of Sugar Land, and Mark and his wife, Katie Wronka Coppedge of Richmond; two daughters, Lisa Coppedge of Waco and Carmel Coppedge Turman and husband, Tim Turman of Ocala, Florida; daughter-in-law, Catherine Donaldson Coppedge of Sugar Land; sister, Carol Coppedge Horan and her husband, Walter Lee Horan of Bakersfield, California; one grandson; six granddaughters; mother-in-law, Carmel Krovontka of Sugar Land; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan and Donna Krovonta of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Payne of Nacogdoches; brother-in-law, Joe Payne of Sugar Land; along with other relatives and many friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to neighbors Adesina Y. Oyelami and Olusola D. Oyelami for their loving care. A funeral mass will be offered at 10:00 A. M., Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land with Father Reggie Samuels officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 P. M., Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Honored to serve as pallbearers are his sons, Woodrow, Jr., Jim, Mark and Tim along with brothers-in-law, Lee Horan and Stanley Krovontka. Honorary pallbearers will include Jacob Coppedge, Joe Payne, Lee Payne, Tommy Schneider, Bob Ward, John Sudela, Philip Christensen and Paul Krovontka. Immediately following the graveside service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held at St. Laurence Parish Hall.
