William Franklin Fenley Sr.

William Franklin “Dub” Fenley Sr., 93, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 in Sugar Land. He was born February 8, 1925 in Lowell, North Carolina to Rosamond Robert Fenley and Julia Antoinette Hollaway Fenley. Dub served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. One of his many mottos was God, Family, Country. After returning from the war and graduating from TCU, he worked as a Senior Accountant for Texaco Inc. After retirement from Texaco, Dub was a Lead Bus Driver for Fort Bend ISD and retired with 20 years of service. He loved children and being a good influence for their life. He drove many a student to school, football games, band competitions and other school activities. It would always put a smile on his face as he would recall the memories of his students, or as he would encounter them around town later in life. Along with people, outdoors was another of his many passions. He was a coach, a Scout Master and a Master Gardner who loved tending to his flowers and especially his roses. Dub and Loraine left their mark all over Sugar Land and beyond, whether it was the Waffle House, the bank, the grocery store, a neighbor or a passing stranger. Dub always had a quick happy greeting ready for all, and of course a story or two or five for all he would meet. He was a true Christian who didn’t just teach his faith but walked by it every day. Above all, his biggest passion and most fulfilling accomplishment was his family. He was an amazing Dad, Granddad, Great Granddad and Great-Great Granddad, always ready to load up the car and head to a game, a dance recital, a play, a snake hunt, or anything his family did that he and mom could be a part of, even watching sick kiddos on a moments notice. Survivors include: 2 children, Melanie K. Webb and husband Steven, Paul R. Fenley and wife Michelle J.; son-in-law Jack Wilder; daughter-in-law Cheryl Hammond; sister Moena Rigby; 8 grandchildren - Mark Fenley, Harper Wilder, Lea Westberg (sp. Stephen Westberg), Matthew Mullins, Melissa De’Orazio (sp. Matt De’Orazio), Kristen Wooldridge (sp. Zach Wooldridge), Jacob Fenley, Taylor Lobb, Kelli Lobb; 7 great grandchildren- Weston Schulze (sp. Ashley Schulze), Tyler Wilder, Luke Wilder, Kira Wilder, Colton Westberg, Kenzie Fenley, Ellena Fenley and one great great grandchild Berkley Schulze. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alma Loraine Fenley, his brother Bobby Fenley, son William F. “Bill” Fenley Jr. and daughter Carol Anne Wilder. Ever since his wife, Loraine, passed, he was just waiting "to go on up", but he enjoyed each day, each visit, each meal until he just couldn't fight the fight any longer. So today, we as a family are celebrating his life, and his passing on to glory. We are so thankful that he is no longer suffering, laying in that bed, because that was not how he lived his life for the past 93 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-8 P.M. Burial will be Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth.
