Virginia Wehring Vitek On July 3, 2020, Virginia Vitek passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, Texas. She was a kind, generous soul who loved her family dearly and whose goal in life was to help others. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Virginia Jean Rodman, known by family and friends as Ginger, was born on December 23, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to C.M. and Mildred Rodman. She lived in Louisiana, South Carolina, and Georgia before moving to Corpus, Christi, Texas. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1958 and attended the University of North Texas for a year before marrying Wallace Wehring and starting a family. She lived in Bryan/College Station and El Paso before making Rosenberg her permanent home to raise her son Lee and her daughter Cindy. She returned to school and earned her degree from University of Houston in 1974 and began her teaching career. After Wallace’s passing in 1987, Ginger married Robert Vitek in 1991. They enjoyed many weekends together at their country farm in Caldwell, Texas, which was her happy place where she loved to be. Ginger always put her family first; no matter what they were involved in, she was a part of it. When her children played baseball, she was there keeping score and selling snacks. She went to every tennis match she could. She supported them in all their activities, and her children’s friends knew they were always welcome at her home. As a teacher, Ginger showed compassion for each of her students and encouraged them to learn. She taught school for more than 38 years. She began teaching at private schools, both at Holy Rosary and Calvary Episcopal, and she retired from teaching after working at Travis Elementary for many years. After retirement she worked part time for the Texas Department of Corrections Education System for several years. She loved her students as her own and kept touch with several of them throughout her life, meeting for occasional reunions. Ginger found joy in many things, three of which stand out more than others: her God, her country, and her Fightin' Texas Aggies. Ginger was a dedicated Methodist and was a member of several churches during her life, including First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg, Caldwell First United Methodist Church, and Chriesman United Methodist Church. In Chriesman she taught Sunday school for several years to the children in her church. She also participated in Walk to Emmaus to further dedicate herself to her Lord. Ginger also loved her country and was one of the most patriotic Americans you could find. She lived the life of a military wife during the first few years of her marriage to Wallace. She proudly displayed the American flag and had many patriotic decorations in her home. She had great respect for her country and the soldiers who fight to protect our liberties. Although Ginger never attended Texas A&M, she embraced the school as her own. She began spending weekends at A&M when she was 15 years old. It was love at first sight. Her love of the Aggie spirit and the school’s traditions were held in high esteem, and she surrounded herself in maroon and white. Both of her husbands were Aggies, and she was so proud that two of her grandsons chose to follow in the Aggie traditions like their grandfather. It is no surprise that she opened her home to her grandsons’ Aggie friends to provide a place to get away. They came to the Caldwell farm and had fun learning about farm life and just hanging out. Ginger always kept the Aggie spirit, and an Aggie flag always flew both at her home in Rosenberg and her Caldwell farm. She tried to never miss a football game on TV or radio. Even when the score was not in the Aggies' favor, you could hear her cheering, singing the fight song, and yelling "Whoop" and “Gig’ em!” Texas A&M was the love of her life. Ginger is preceded in death by her sisters Maxine and Shirley, her parents C.M. and Milred Rodman, and her first husband Wallace Wehring. She is survived by her husband Robert Vitek, her son Lee Wehring and wife Cam, her daughter Cynthia Musslewhite and husband Glenn, her step-daughter Robin Vitek, her grandsons Kyle Wehring and wife Ashley, Jacob Wehring, Brian Musslewhite, and Craig Musslewhite, as well as six great-grand daughters. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Oak Bend Hospital who cared for her during her stay and provided opportunities for family members to video chat. Services will be held at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenberg Texas 77471 on Thursday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Services will streamed online at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com. Pall bearers will be Kyle Wehring, Jacob Wehring, Brian Musslewhite, Craig Muslewhite, Steven Primm, and John Wehring.
