Susan A. Hayes

Susan Hayes, our light in the dark, was called home to God on February 16, 2023. Susan was the very definition of love and kindness in all aspects of her life as a mother, grandmother, wife, colleague, and friend. She was unfaltering in her faith and was wholly committed to Grand Parkway Baptist Church and its community, especially working with and supporting the children. Susan was born on November 29, 1956 to her parents Bessie and Eugene Miller in Gloversville, New York, and she was the youngest of their six children. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1974, and she thankfully made her way to Houston, Texas shortly thereafter, where she worked for a number of companies, including Hamilton Shirts and Texas Messaging as their bookkeeper for many years. On May 28, 1982, Susan brought her oldest son, Jason, into her life, and she quickly proved that she was the perfect fit for motherhood. She loved him unconditionally for all of her days. Susan married Tim Hayes on April 30, 1994, and there was no question that his children would be loved as her own. Susan and Tim were completely devoted to each other for 28 years, and “Susan” meant “mother” to us. She also loved her grandchildren with all her might, and we could not have wished for a more welcoming and nurturing soul than hers. Susan loved to cook, and she was an excellent one. She always went above and beyond when she prepared meals for others, whether it was for a holiday feast or for a simple gathering of friends. Her care, her patience, and her comfort were felt with every bite, and no one went home wanting. Susan is survived by her husband, Tim Hayes; her children, Jason Clark, Stephen Hayes (husband, Shelby Joe), Chandra McFarlen (husband, Doug McFarlen), and David Hayes (wife, Claire Robinson); her grandchildren, Luke and Joe McFarlen, and Charlie Hayes-Robinson; her brother, John Miller (wife, Cheryl); and her many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Eugene, and her siblings Eugene Jr., Nancy, June, and Kathy. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10:00AM at Grand Parkway Baptist Church (Adult Building) at 12000 FM 1464, Richmond, TX 77407, with a visitation at 9:00 AM. Burial to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
