Sandy Elizabeth Munoz McCarty

Sandy Elizabeth Munoz McCarty, 79 of Rosenberg, TX, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2018 while surrounded by her three daughters. She was born on April 15, 1938 in Flatonia Texas to the late Andres and Concepcion Munoz. In 1958, she left her home in East Bernard, TX to visit her sister in California, where she started her family that later would take her to Ashland, KY until she returned to her beloved home state of Texas in 1978. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and worked for over 20 years at Lamar Consolidated ISD, where she made many close friends, retiring in 2003. After retiring she spent time at her daughters’ homes, also traveling with them to Hawaii, California, New York City, Washington DC, Virginia and Florida. She loved traveling and was always ready to go when her friends and family called her to accompany them on trips in and outside of Texas. Ms. McCarty was preceded in death by her spouse, Onley "Mac" McCarty; sisters, Inez Cedillo, Isidra Cedillo, Patro Cedillo Perales, Mercedes Cedillo Hererra, Minga Cedillo Moreno, Mary Munoz Becerra and Jane Munoz Marshall; brother, Paul Cedillo and granddaughter, Dustin Opell. She is survived by her brother, Joe Munoz (Mamie) of Beasley, TX; daughters, Maxine Opell (Kevin) of Catlettsburg, KY, Tina Davis (Larry Treadway) of Lawrenceburg, KY and Vicky Eckel (Brian) of Lakeway, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Opell, Jacob Opell, Chad Opell (Cheyenne), Isabella Opell, Jarrod Davis, Katelyn Davis, James Garza (Emilee) and Taylor Eckel; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Opell-Pertee and Masen Garza. Also, she is survived by many close friends and large family, many who considered their Aunt Sandy a “second mother." Pallbearers will be Oscar Becerra, Jarrod Davis, Brian Eckel, James Garza, Chad Opell and Kevin Opell. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mary Montalvo. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Rosenberg, followed by a mass at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Bartniski officiating. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sandy’s name may be made to Holy Rosary Church, 1416 George Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.
