Phillip A. Hilbrich

Phillip is preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, aunt, uncles and brothers, Rebecca Tucker Hilbrich, Benjamin Tucker, Vada Hardy, Victor Hilbrich, Margaret Bergbreiter, Philma Jones, Edna Jones, Richard Hilbrich and Richard Hilbrich. Survivors include his son, Phillip "Anthony"; father, Lawrence Hilbrich and wife, Mildred; sisters, Debbie Hilbrich Smith and Felicia Villafana; nephew, Jonathan Smith and his wife, Jacqui and their children, Sophia and Mia; niece, Christa Lollis and her husband, Scott and their children, Logan, Connor and Mallory; niece, Nicole Villafana and her partner, Robert Mackey; many cousins, Harley and Debbie Jones, Phyllis and Blake Knesek, Phillip Jones, Laura and Joseph Kubena; extended family and a host of friends and colleagues. Phillip was a dedicated, passionate employee who took immense pride in his job. We were lucky to have him as a part of the Hlavinka organization for over 10 years, and he will be deeply missed. A few thoughts and memories about our brother: • Phil dearly loved his son “Anthony” and cherished his father/son relationship. • Phil was an Air Force brat! As a young child he moved many times before settling in San Antonio during the late 1960’s. • The skating rink was an extracurricular activity during his elementary and middle school years. He worked part-time at Skateland West and participated in skating competitions in San Antonio, Texas. • His love for automobiles and all things mechanical started in high school. During high school he built a dune buggy and restored a Ford Mustang with a few friends. • With the push of his sister, he was the John Jay High School Fillies Danceteam Manager in his 10th to 12th grade years. • Before moving to East Bernard, he lived in Houston. Phil had many jobs, but one in particular that he loved was his job at Gerhardt’s Inc. They were a market leader in the distribution and servicing of controls and accessory products for heavy duty engines and turbines. He started in the parts department and quickly got promoted and moved on to the Governor department. • Volunteered for the Wharton County Youth Fair. • Volunteered at Holy Cross Catholic Church. • Phil took pride and loved working at Hlavinka Equipment Company 6 days a week. In jest, co-workers told him they needed a day off from him at least one day a week. • Anyone that knows Phil, knows he can say a lot in a very short period of time. So, it has been said the folks at Hlavinkas taught him early on that he needed to talk slower so they could understand what he was saying. Hlavinka’s was a great match for him! He worked there 10 years and loved being a part of the Hlavinka family! • He enjoyed his daily cigar and beer after work with his friends/co-workers in Lissie. • Phil loved dogs, especially CJ when he lived in Houston. More recently Phil had a companion neighborhood dog, Pedro that would be waiting for him every day at work. Pedro would lay next to Phil and keep him company while at work. And of course, Phil would share his taco or whatever food he had with Pedro. They were big buds! TO KNOW PHIL IS TO LOVE PHIL…..NOTHING/NO-ONE COMPARES TO YOU! YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.
