Orin N. Covell

A Funeral Mass for Orin N. Covell, 64, of Richmond, Texas will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond where Fr. Howard Drabek will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Morton Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Orin was born February 12, 1946 in Rosenberg to Milton Orin and Falba May Buchholz Covell. He served 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserve with the 463rd Engineer Detachment Fire Fighters and attained the rank of Sgt/E5 as a crew chief. Orin served as Mascot of the Richmond Fire Department in 1952 and has been an active volunteer member for over 30 years. He was a former board member and volunteer of the Pecan Grove Fire Department. He was the Past President of a number of civic organizations: Lamar Consolidated High School Athletic Booster Club, Rotary Club of Richmond, Pecan Grove Municipal Utility District, Katy Mills MUD, Fort Bend County Museum Association, Fort Bend County Community Foundation now known as LEAF, Lamar Education Awards Foundation, Rosenberg Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce and Long Meadow Farms MUD, to name a few. His leadership organizations include being a member of the charter class of Leadership Fort Bend sponsored by the Rose- Rich Chamber, Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, Leadership High School at George High School and past member of board of directors of the Houston - Gulf Coast Chapter of ALF. Orin has been the Administrative Officer of The George Foundation, an entity well known for its support of Fort Bend County community endeavors. He also has served as an officer for the 100 Club Firefighter Selection Committee in Richmond. Orin was a lifetime member of the Fort Bend County Fair and the Czech Fest. He was active with the Boy Scouts and American Red Cross. Orin has been an active alumnus of the Zeta Mu Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Sam Houston State University and most recently has served as President of the Zeta Mu ATO Alumni Association and was a member of the Board of Directors for the alumni advisor board for undergraduate Chapter. Orin passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2010 at OakBend Medical Center in Richmond. He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton Orin and Falba May Covell and an infant son, Rhett Robert Orin Covell. Orin is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rebecca "Becky" Covell, daughter, Lara Leigh Tucker and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Rhett David Butterfield and Will Tucker; sisters, Ann Covell Council and husband, Jeff and Lynn Covell Forsberg; sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Todd Bennett; nieces and nephews, Keely Forsberg Hertel and husband, Stephen, Dave Forsberg and wife, Jessica, Mike Council, Kevin Council and wife, Kristi, Gage Bennett and Taylor Bennett; Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Richmond Fire Department and host of many family and friends. Orin was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his granddaughter, Brooke Leigh Tucker. Pallbearers will be Mike Hafer, Stephen Noto, Aaron Hafer, Brett Hafer, Ray Burciaga, Robert Haas, Tom Walleck and Delphin Stammann. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Richmond Fire Department. For those wishing, memorials in Orin's name may be made to the Richmond Fire Department, SHSU Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity Scholarship Fund in care of Rick Hanna, or the Sacred Heart Building Fund.
