Michael Royce Huey, 78, passed away on May 11, 2026, at his home in Richmond, Texas. Michael was born on January 31, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Jessie Lorraine (née Hall) and Wallace Huey. The family soon moved to Houston, where Michael would build a life defined by resilience, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for others. To describe Michael is no easy feat. He was brilliant, with a vocabulary that could put Webster to shame. His wit was unmatched, and he was always ready with a bon mot or clever remark (“I’ve got a bone in my leg!” “That will make you slumber in the bed!” “tougher than eight day old oatmeal” “better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.”). He had a rare gift for making people laugh and feel at ease, often turning even ordinary moments into cherished memories. Michael was one of the kindest, most patient, and most generous people one could ever hope to know. Whether with children, animals, the elderly, friends, or strangers, he gave freely of himself and treated everyone with compassion, dignity, and warmth. Whether you knew him as Michael, Mikey, Huey, the Treatmeister, Little Mikey, Pops, or Daddy, to know Michael was to know love. He never met a stranger and possessed an extraordinary ability to make every person and animal he encountered feel important, valued, and deeply loved. Though gentle in spirit, Michael possessed tremendous courage and determination. Throughout his life, he continually overcame adversity, surviving four separate battles with cancer and enduring the profound losses of his mother, father, brother, sister, and both parents-in-law. Yet no hardship could break his spirit. Through every challenge, Michael somehow managed to find the bright side, always choosing hope, gratitude, and love. His strength was quiet but unshakable. Michael made friends everywhere he went, including throughout his ever-evolving career path. He found early success in the printing business before transitioning into sales, where his natural warmth, charisma, and genuine care for others allowed him to thrive. No matter the industry, Michael believed in treating people honestly and fairly, and he formed lasting friendships with customers and coworkers from all walks of life. He was loved by many. More than anything, Michael loved his family. He was a provider, protector, advocate, confidant, and friend. He reminded those around him to see the good in people and beauty in the world. He lived with gratitude, generosity, care for all, and an endless capacity for love. Above all else, Michael wanted everyone to “Be Happy.” He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his soulmate, best friend, and wife of 48 years Lavonne Laswell Huey; his daughter Jessica Huey Simpson and her husband Jason Simpson; son Sean Huey; daughter Dr. Eileen Huey; and grandson Eli Simpson, along with his beloved dogs, George, Tiny, and Lucy, and his extended family, countless friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed by services at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
