Michael Bonine

Funeral services for Michael Robert Bonine, 34, of Hempstead, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010, at First Colony Church of Christ, 2140 First Colony Blvd., Sugar Land, Texas, with interment following at Forest Park Lawndale. Ministers Ronnie Norman and Bobb Griggs will officiate the services. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 at First Colony Church of Christ in Sugar Land. Michael was born March 25, 1975 in Houston to Ann Onstead Hill and Earl Eugene Bonine. He passed away March 23, 2010 in Houston after a brief illness. Michael is preceded in death by his father, Earl Bonine; and grandparents, Douglas Bonine, Neva Oman, and Robert Onstead. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Ashley Bonine; daughters, Audrey and Addison Bonine; mother and step-father, Ann and Preston Hill; siblings, Jarod Bonine and wife, Chandra, Katie Tuley and husband, David, and Meggan Hill; grandmother, Kay Onstead; step-grandmother, Barbara Hill; grandparents-in-law, Athalia and Richard "Blackie" Hardy; sisters-in-law, Brittney Powlesson, Kelly Mayfield, and Kate Hardy; nieces and nephews, Kaylinn, John David and Lissie Tuley, Cullen Bonine, Alex, Taylor, and Britton Mayfield; aunts and uncles Dr. Charles Onstead, Barbara and Gerry DeLorimiere, Pamela and Randall Onstead, John Bonine, Mary Onstead, Amy and Charles Onstead, Amy and Scott Hill, and Brenda Onstead; along with numerous cousins, other relatives, and many friends. Pallbearers will include cousins Josh Bonine, Matt Bonine, Robert Onstead, Douglas Onstead, and Trey Garcia and friends Jim Bruce, Richard Fletcher, Donnie McKinney, Richard Tetzlaff, Colby Hillis, Herman Bloomberg, Bo Davidson, Buddy Shipp, and Mike Collier. His passing was much too early for the many who loved him dearly. Michael was a prince of a man with a heart of gold. He was gentle, tender-hearted, selfless, thoughtful, sweet, kind, humorous, and generous. He was also a man of great integrity. Michael's priorities were his two great loves: his faith and his family. He excelled in both, putting them above all else without wavering. Michael loved the Lord and was His faithful servant. Michael served the Lord as a member of the Brenham, Texas Church of Christ, and, more importantly, through his everyday walk through life. Michael also was the consummate loving Christian husband, father, and friend. He had a limitless love for his sweet wife Ashley and his precious daughters Audrey and Addison. They were the light of his life. These words are no surprise to anyone who ever met Michael – his love for the Lord and for his family were open and obvious. His family's closeness and genuine happiness were just as obvious. Michael also enjoyed spending time and traveling with Ashley, Audrey, Addison, his parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as with Ashley's sisters and others in her family. Michael had a particularly special and close relationship to his grandfather, the late Bob Onstead. The two would frequently spend one-on-one time on trips to the family ranches in Navasota and South Texas. Michael relished the simple things in life. From a young age, he loved nature and the outdoors. He loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He loved hunting. He loved team roping with a group of his cowboy buddies. He trapped and man-handled wild pigs. He was happiest working outdoors, which is what he did most of his life. Michael liked rodeos and cowboying. He liked Western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne. He was a true and loyal friend. Michael loved to laugh and had a twinkle in his eye when he smiled. Michael made a practice of selflessly serving others without calling attention to his efforts. As his final selfless act, Michael donated his organs. Michael was in a room surrounded by those who loved him most when he went home to the Lord. Those of us in that room shall never forget Michael nor the last time we saw him, as he "slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God."
