Marjorie R. Poteet

Funeral services for Marjorie "Marge, Mom, Grammy" R. Poteet of Rosenberg, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in the Davis-Greenlawn Chapel with Pastor Greg Garcia officiating the services. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 28 in the State Room at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home. Marge was born to Luther and Bertie Richey in Port Neches, and she passed away at her home in Rosenberg, after a valiant battle with colon cancer. Marge was a real estate broker for over 35 years, most of which was in Fort Bend County. Marge loved her yard and patio. She was especially fond of angels and had several that she had collected over the years She had a love of life, family and shopping. She could find the most unique things that would always put a smile on one's face. She was a very giving person and loved to make people smile. Marge enjoyed traveling and had been to France and England. She had traveled across the world and visited Alaska and Hawaii several times. Marge was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Tom Carson; son Richey Johnson Sr.; husband, Al Poteet; and sister-in-law, Sally Richey. She is survived by her daughter, Jolie Zulkowski and husband, Greg; grandson, Dustin Zulkowski and wife, Lindsey; granddaughter, Shana Kubala and husband, Jaron; brother, Dr. L.E. Richey Jr. and wife, Shelly; nephews: Randy Richey, Tom Richey and wife, Jodi, Todd Richey and wife, Lisa, Lance Richey, and Kyle Richey and wife, Jami; nieces, Lisa Brockett and Tara Hall; and stepson, David Poteet; special longtime friends and neighbors, Jerry and Valerie Landry, whom she thought of as family. Pallbearers will be nephews Randy, Tom, Todd, Lance and Kyle Richey, and great-nephews, Mason and Mitchell Leonard. One of her favorite verses was from "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant 1794 - 1878 So live, that when thy summons comes to join The innumerable caravan which moves To that mysterious realm, where each shall take His chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night, Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams. Special thanks to Yole Davila who helped Mom during her last few months tremendously. From taking her to the store to just being there with her during the day. She is one very special lady who Marge thought so much of. Also, special thanks to Rosie Kimble and Verdell Jones who helped Marge over the years and been such a blessing to the family and to Odyssey Hospice Care for their never-ending care of Mom during the last few weeks of her life. Their nurses went beyond the call to make sure that she was comfortable. They are all very special people.
