Leon Benedict Valicek

Leon Benedict Valicek, 85, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife and son by his side, Thursday, July 05, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Leon was born, May 5, 1922, to Anton and Agnes Vasek Valicek, in St. Johns Community, Schulenburg. Leon married Victoria Witzkoski on April 26, 1942 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Rosenberg. Leon was a World War II veteran, serving in the Air Force. He served his country in the Aleutians Islands. After he returned from the war, he owned and operated Leons Auto Sales, in the Rosenberg area, selling used vehicles for over 40 years. Leon was Past Commander of the local American Legion, post 271 and an active member of the VFW. He was also an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church serving as an Usher for many years. After his retirement, Leon enjoyed BBQing and camping with his family at Garner State Park. He took great pleasure in hunting with his wife, at their ranch in Brady. He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Mary Frances in 1953; his parents, Anton and Agnes; his brothers, Anton, Jack, Victor, Bill and Julius. Leon is survived by his wife, Victoria Valicek of Rosenberg, his children, son Leroy Jerome Valicek and daughter-in-law, Carole, of Wallis, and daughter, Dorothy Ann Stickland and son-in-law, Bill, of Livingston; sisters, Matilda Jones of Lafayette, Lousiana; Clara Zapalac and Virginia Jurica, both of Schulenburg; granddaughters, Tamara Ann Valicek Maresh and husband, John, of Sealy; Sandra Lee Valicek Tietze and husband, Craig, of Boerne; Patricia Lynn Valicek and friend, Daniel Martinez, of Rosenberg, Debra Kay Valicek Hoffman and husband, Karl, of Katy; Nicole Strickland Ryan and husband, Patrick, of Fort Stockton; Holly Strickland and Lacey Strickland, both of Livingston; Great-Grandchildren, Trent and Wesley Maresh, Weston Tietze, Abagail Ryan, and Lexi and Lynzie Martinez; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A. M., Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. Internment will follow at West Gethsemane in Rosenberg. Father Dan Warden will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 P. M. on Friday, July 6, 2007 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home.
