Lena Mary Wernli

Lena Mary Wernli peacefully went home to her Lord on May 29, 2010 from Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home. Lena was born in Nelsonville, Texas on June 14, 1912 to Samuel and Emma Wernli and was baptized at the age of 4 in Nelsonville. Lena started her life in Fort Bend County, near Needville, with her loving sister and brother-in-law, Theo and Tillie Dahse. Her life was greatly enhanced by sharing in the joys of helping raise their four children. She was a hard worker always by their side on the farm. Faith in God saw them through all the adversities in life. Lena was an Aunt, great Aunt, great great Aunt, and even a great great great Aunt, but she was much more than that. After many years of farming near Needville they retired in Sugar Land where they enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking great meals and family. Lena was an accomplished seamstress, spending many hours at her sewing machine and many special friends were made. Lena was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rosenberg where she was confirmed on June 30, 1929 and was a member of Dorcas Circle, which she looked forward to attending. After Tillie and Theo's deaths, Lena made her home at Cambridge Square Assisted Living in Rosenberg where she lived about 5 years and was very well taken care of and made many friends. She moved to Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home in February 2010 and was well taken care of by the staff and Hospice. Our loving, dear Lena will always be remembered as a very strong person who never complained or demanded much from those who cared for her and would always thank those who came to see her in her time of need. She loved her family and church dearly. Lena is survived by her nieces, Betty Clark and husband, Jack, of Hallettsville, Elda Vacek and husband, Louis, of Bellville, Jean Tarver and husband, Don, of Brenham, and Delores Dahse of Houston; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Lena had many church members and friends that lovingly cared for her and took her to church and Bible study as long as she could go. She was very blessed by the friendship and care of Susan O'Hearn, Jill Kunzler, Marion Wright and many others to numerous to list. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Emma Wernli; sisters, Matilda Dahse, Adell Carraway, Emmie Pheffer and Mary Patterson and their spouses, Theo Dahse, Fred Carraway and Arno Pheffer; nephew, Nelson Dahse, Sr.; great nephew, Otis Norris; and great-great nephew, Garrett Loredo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1208 Fifth Street in Rosenberg with Rev. Claude Villemaire officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P. M. in Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in the State Room of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
