Juan Johnny Soliz

Funeral services for Juan Johnny Soliz, 59, of Needville, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with Father Joseph Phan officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2009 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Johnny was born December 27, 1949 in Littlefield, Texas to Pablo Briones and Leonora Blanco Briones. He passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at his home in Needville. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as LCPL from the U. S. Marines Corps. He worked as a peace officer for the City of Needville, then worked for the City of Arcola as a peace officer for many years retiring as a security officer. As a husband, he loved his wife most dearly and cherished every moment with her. As a father, he was very active and supportive of his daughter in her endeavors of higher education. He enjoyed speaking to young people of what it meant to be an American and their role in the importance in getting a better education. He knew no stranger and would go out of his way to help others. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville. Before his health weakened, Johnny was actively involved as a member of the Knights of Columbus of Needville, Needville American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Fallen Soldiers of Lamar, Fort Bend Hispanic Forum and many other organizations. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Leonora Blanco Briones. He leaves behind the love of his life and loving wife of 31 years, Cecilia DeLeon-Soliz and his daughter, who was his pride and joy, Jenni R. Soliz. He is also survived by his brother, Guadalupe Martinez and family; his sisters, Frances Guerrero and family, Yolanda Correa and family, Lorencia Pena and family, Mary Mendoza and family, Trini Webb and family, Leonora Sosa and family, Mary Hurta and family, Josephine Briones and family and Christina Bentancourt and family; along with many other family members and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Kota Reddy and his group for going that extra mile for Johnny, Dr. Charles Henry and staff of Rosenberg Dialysis, the staff at Oak Bend Medical Center, David Luedeke along with the emergency crew from Needville, and the many family members and friends for their countless calls, prayers, visits and support. Memorial donations may be made in Johnny's name to your charity of choice. The Broken Cord: We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us, one by one, the Chain will link again.
