Joyce E. (Holt) Kubik

Joyce Ella (Holt) Kubik died peacefully on December 6, 2019. She was born on November 16, 1924 in Clear Lake, South Dakota. Her father Samuel Garfield Holt and her mother Anna DeKraai Holt raised eight children on the family farm outside of Clear Lake. Joyce moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where she met Kasmier “Ki” Kubik. They were married on July 27, 1944. Ki was in the US Marine Corps and after he returned from the Pacific he went to work in the oil business. This necessitated moving wherever his company sent him. Since they moved all the time they lived in a “trailer house” which they towed behind the family car, an Army surplus jeep. They lived in 30 or 40 places before settling in Houston in 1952. Joyce was the quintessential homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. One of her real pleasures was her involvement in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Houston Geophysical Society. She served in a number of positions including President of the Auxiliary. Perhaps because she moved so many times early in her marriage she developed a love for travelling which she and Ki enjoyed after his retirement. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Seward, Clifford, Stanley, and Don, her sisters Peggy, Florence, and Dorothy, and her husband Ki. She is survived (and sorely missed) by her children, Carol (Sam) Tamborello, Mike (Sherry) Kubik, Jack (Kay) Kubik, Steve Kubik, and Susie (Wayne) Love and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Stefka. She will be missed by all fifteen of her grandchildren and all twenty great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be: Sammy Tamborello, Jr., Michael Tamborello, Josh Kubik, Jacob Kubik, Joe Kubik, Jonny Kubik, Brian Love, Joe Wilson, Kenton Stephens, Sean Mirzabegian, Daniel Koehn, Greg Palmer, and Geoff Young.
