Jammie Carter Schatt

In loving memory of Jamie Carter Schaatt, who was born on January 28, 1936, in Richard City, Tennessee. She was the sixth child of Lee Oma and James Lofton Carter. During the summer of '55, Jamie visited her sisters in Houston, Texas, where she fell in love with the state and decided to make it her home. It was there that she met and married Cliff Schaatt. The couple settled in the Rosenberg/Richmond area of Fort Bend County, where they raised their three children: Jennifer, Jeff, and Renee. Jamie was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Jenny, Evelyn, Jerri, Joan, and Billy, and her grandson Justin Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her best friend and companion, Helmut Erwing. Jamie is survived by her brother, Dr. J L Carter, and his wife, Susan, as well as her sisters-in-law, Joann Hargis and Sherrye Schaatt. She is lovingly remembered by her children: daughter Jennifer Mangel, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Joy Schaatt, and daughter and son-in-law Renee and Scott Johnson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Johnathon Mangel, Jacqueline Clark and husband Gilbert, Jessica McClain, Julie McClain, Jenna Schaatt, Jordan Svajda, Janna Krejci and husband Trey, Jeffrey Svajda, and Jeb Johnson. Jamie is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Julian Svajda, Giulianna Giambi, McKenna Krejci, McKall Krejci, Charles Clark, and William Clark. In addition to her immediate family, Jamie is remembered fondly by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and family friends. On June 24, 2023, our beloved Gammie passed away peacefully from heart failure at Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, Texas. She was surrounded by her loved ones, and we are grateful for the wonderful care she received from the hospital staff. A funeral service to celebrate Jamie's life will take place on July 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Davis-Greenlawn Chapel. Following the service, a reception will be held at Larry's Mexican Restaurant in Richmond, where friends and family can gather to share memories and celebrate Jamie's life. Jamie will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Whenever we have a glass of iced tea or see a Sweet 'n Low packet, we will be reminded of her laughter and the joy she brought into our lives. Her presence will forever be felt and cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
