James Homer Jackson

James “Jim” Jackson was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. After graduating from high school, he experienced life and years later decided to matriculate at St. Louis Community College where he was an honor student and received an Associate in Applied Science Degree. He moved to the Richmond, Texas area in 1980. Jim worked in several professions. For a number of years he worked in the Sales Department at Honeywell Electronics, worked at Polly Ryan Hospital repairing medical equipment and finally retired from Richmond State School as a supervisor. On October 4, 1993, he married his “Wifey Pooh” Carrie L. Pines and they shared a blissful union for twenty four years. He took great pleasure in “Driving Miss Daisy, his Wifey Pooh and her girlfriends, Caroline, Jimmie Mae, and Josephine to church. Daddy-o, affectionately called by his children, loved his blended family. He never used the word step-children, they were his children. James Jackson joined Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church around 1994 and was baptized by Rev. N. Walker. He proudly served as treasurer of the usher board. Having been appointed by Pastor Robert Simpson in November 2004 to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of the congregation, the title of DEACON was bestowed on him and oh how he treasured the role and responsibility entrusted to him. He loved his community. Jim served as neighborhood block captain and was a member of the Building and Standards Commission. Recently, his service was acknowledged by the City of Richmond and Mayor with a service pin. James Jackson is survived by his children: James Jr., Debbie, Irma (James), Douglas, Dianna (Lynn), David (Cathy), Rhonda (James), Grandhearts: Ashley, Matthew, Nathan, Tim, Melanie, Katie, Alex, Samantha, Craig (Marshella), Keisha, Russell, Great grandhearts: Colton, Emmah & Myles. James is preceded in death by his parents, Orville Homer Jackson and Mary Lucille Wheeler Jackson and brother, Arthur Jackson. Pallbearers will be James Frederick Shorts, Robert Willis, James Handy, Ricky Flora, Rodney Flora, and Harvey Jones. Visitation will be held at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, Texas, Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church, 2020 Williams Way, Richmond, Texas, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 with burial to follow at Murphy Jones Cemetery in Richmond.
