James Bailey Hearne

James Bailey Hearne, YNCS, USN-Retired, sailed to glory on July 9, 2020. James, Jim as friends called him, was born on April 28, 1934 in Denver, Colorado. His parents, Alvia Alton Hearne and his bride Daisy Mae Bailey Hearne later moved their family to southern California where they raised three children. Jim’s oldest brother, Alvia Alton Hearne, Junior pre-deceased Jim. Jim is survived by his gracious and beautiful sister Merle (Sis) Hearne Thomas of Tyler, Texas. Jim was married to Rosa Lee Moak Hearne for 67 years. Rose lives in West Houston in a family care home where Jim lived as well. Jim and Rose had three children: the late James Bailey Hearne, Junior; Patricia Jean Hearne Henson of Fulshear, Texas and Allison Kathleen Hearne of Sanford, North Carolina. James Bailey Hearne, Junior had two children with Patricia Lillis-Hearne, MD, Colonel, USA-Retired. James Michael Hearne lives in Arlington, Texas with his wife Amy Chiu Hearne and son Auron Bailey Hearne; and Katherine Marie Hearne in the Washington, DC area. Patricia and Jonathan Henson, CWO4, USCG, have two daughters, Jennifer Henson Nicholson, married to Barry Paul Nicholson and have four children: Sydney Clarisse, Riley Marie, Romey Jean and Broderick Jon and live in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Jessica Marie Henson Gilbreath has two children: Bailey Wade and Rosalee Opal and live in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Allison Hearne and spouse Beth Bale live on a farm in the Sanford, NC area with their horses, hens and dogs. Jim, Gramps, was loved by his four grandkids and seven great grandkids. At times Gramps was referred to as Grumps…for good reason. After retiring from the US Navy, Jim worked for the US Government for 18 years. Jim and Rose retired for good and moved to San Antonio, Texas and lived there until 2012. Jim and Rose were active members of their churches and generously shared their life with their fellow members. Jim and Rose were active in their Sunday School classes and gave of their time to support shut-ins and families of church members. Jim was an avid golfer who picked up the game during his time in the US Navy and became a single-digit handicap golfer. Jim was stationed in Hawaii before it was a state, Japan and throughout the US, mostly in Hawaii. After retiring from the US Navy, Jim and Rose moved to Herndon, Virginia where they lived from 1976 to 1994. In 2012, Jim and Rose moved to Patricia’s home in Fulshear, Texas while Patricia and Jonathan lived in the United Kingdom until 2014. Rose’s health suffered from dementia and Jim gave himself to her care. As Rose’s health declined, Jim still provided care for her through several loving health care workers. As Jim’s health declined, both were moved to Serenity Care Home, Katy, where they received excellent 24/7 care. Jim had several health issues which stemmed from Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Jim’s love for Rose was his incentive for battling through the many health difficulties associated with CHF. Even with Rose’s condition, Jim would regularly sing to Rose and speak softly to his bride. Even though Rose could not respond, Jim would demonstrate his enduring love for Rose. That’s what 67 years do to a couple. Jim’s body finally wore out and he peacefully ended his earthly journey and entered his eternal home in heaven on July 9, 2020. Jim/Dad/Gramps made the successful voyage to the loving arms of Christ Jesus where he is reunited with his family. Jim awaits patiently for his Rose’s arrival. We can hear Jim say, “Welcome Blue Eyes!” What a celebration that will be! Viewing and visitation from 10 to 11 AM with a service at 11 AM. Jim will be interred at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on Monday, July 20 with full military honors.
