James Albert "Jim" Giese

James Albert “Jim” Giese, 77, of Needville, Texas passed away on June 8, 2018. He was born on November 7, 1940 in Mercedes, Texas to Edwin H. and Thelma D. Giese. Jim worshiped at the Needville United Methodist Church. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked briefly for Texas Highway Patrol prior to focusing on Ranching. For many years, Jim assisted residents of the Richmond State Supported Living Center in their Therapeutic Equestrian Riding. Jim was involved with the Needville Youth Fair. He served on the cutting horse committee at the Houston Livestock Show for many years, Wharton County Youth Rodeo Association and the FBC Youth Rodeo Association. He enjoyed hunting and had quite a collection of knives and guns. His biggest joy in life was to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. You could find him and his wife, Bette cheering them on in all of their endeavors. This loving husband, father, Papa, and friend will be missed. Jim is preceded in death by his father, Edwin H. Giese, mother and stepfather, Thelma D. Giese Young and Shelt M. Young; siblings, Edwin H. Giese, Jr., Toni Lynn Giese and Michael A. Giese; and son-in-law, Ben Struska. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bette Vaughn Giese; children, Jimmy Giese and wife, Brittany of Burleson, Texas, Mark Giese and wife, Marla of Needville, Texas, Mendie Brauner and husband, Ernest of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jamie Pirkle and husband Brent of Needville, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor Giese, Blake Giese, Collin Brauner, Madison Giese, Brianna Brauner, Blair Giese, Clay Struska and Brooke Pirkle; along with extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2018 at Needville United Methodist Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jim’s three grandsons, Blake, Collin and Clay along with Eric Aldrich, Shawn Valenta, Stephen Abbott, and Bo Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will include Randy Halbert, Gary Meyer, Thomas Snedecor, Bud Hurta, Dickie Hurta, Louis Teykl, Allen Zwahr and Richard Domel.
