Harris Gene Walenta

Harris Gene Walenta, 85, of Brenham, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2025, to be reunited with the Lord. Harris was an amazing story teller with a great sense of humor, and one of his greatest joys in life was reminiscing with family and friends. Harris was born on August 20, 1939, in Austin, and spent his childhood in Rosenberg with his parents, Ernest and Agnes (Legler) Walenta, and older brother Richard. Harris graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1958, and spent a large portion of his career in the insurance industry with National Life and Accident and Germania Insurance. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Walenta, and husband Richard Cook of Spring; son Steven Walenta and wife Miranda of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and daughter Wendy Watkins and husband Chad of Arlington. Harris's legacy also lives on through his eight cherished grandchildren: Ashley Gossett and husband Brian; Madison Anders and husband Justin; Lauren and Cullen Watkins; Kade, Marina, Lucas, and Ellie Walenta. Harris is also blessed with five great-grandchildren: River, Sage, and Birdie Gossett and Leo and Lucy Anders; sister-in-law Bunnie Moore; and many other cherished family members. Harris is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and twin infant son Stuart. He is also preceded in death by his dear friend Patricia Hajek of Brenham. The family would like to give special acknowledgement to the staff at Kruse Village in Brenham, caregiver Amydawn Miller, and the hospice nurses who cared for Harris. Harris touched the lives of all who knew him and will be deeply missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, January 13th, with the service and burial to follow at 2:00 PM. Both the visitation and service will be held at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapels at 3900 B.F. Terry Boulevard, Rosenberg, Texas.
