Francis Michael Fant

Francis Michael Fant, 71, of Rosenberg, Texas, passed away on July 16, 2018 in Richmond. He was born on November 23, 1946 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Lester O. Fant, Sr. and Lanette Elizabeth Smith Fant. He grew up in Virginia and Florida where he was raised in the Catholic faith. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force as a cook in Alaska and Germany from 1966-1970. He began a career as a metal lather in VA and moved to New Orleans to work on the construction of the Superdome. For 20 years he worked as a kitchen restaurant manager in New Orleans at the prestigious Brennan’s, Commander’s Palace, and The Court of Two Sisters restaurants. After Hurricane Katrina, he retired to Rosenberg, Texas. Those who knew him well will remember a smiling veteran who loved life and always had a joke to share along with a cup of coffee in his hand wearing a favorite cap. His many hobbies included painting, drawing, reading, Sudoku, and cooking. He was a great teacher and story teller. His spirit touched all and he enjoyed the simple things in life, especially time with family, friends, and his three dogs. He fought his ailing health bravely for many years and will now be at peace with God. This loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his brother Earl Allen Fant. Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda; his daughters Sherry Frey and husband Mark, and Christina Fant; his grandchildren Emerall Fant, Alexis Frey, and Sofia Frey; his siblings Thomas Joseph Fant, Janet Carol “Sissy” Yeater, Lester O. Fant Jr, Gregory R. Fant, Terrell Burton, and Michelle Fant; his niece Karen Obmaces and nephew Norman Fant and numerous others. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in the Chapel of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 South 4th Street in Richmond.
