Ethel Shaw Thompson

Ethel Alcinzia Shaw Thompson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 4, 2010. She was 94 years old. Born January 28, 1916 to Frank Evans and Molly Ethel Shaw in Bouie County in Sims, Texas. She was the oldest of three brothers and four sisters. She was married to Frank George Thompson for 49 years. They raised two boys, Melvin Carol and George Weldon. They lived many years on the Harlem Prison Farm and the Sugarland Dept. of Correction Farm where her husband Frank worked. While raising the boys and helping on the farms, Ethel went to school and received her nursing license. Nursing was a true love for Ethel who loved taking care of people. She worked at Polly Ryan Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, St. Lukes Hospital and Wharton Hospital. In her early years she worked at the hospital during the day and did private duty nursing at night. In her later years she did private duty nursing where she got the opportunity of taking care of some really nice people. She worked up into her eighties because of her love for people. She enjoyed working in the garden, where she grew the best vegetables. Everyone especially loved her tomatoes. Her tender love in care showed in her garden where she once raised a 100lb watermelon. She was a great cook and her family especially loved her biscuits, and don't forget the mouth watering roast and potatoes. Jellies and jams, pickles, and everything you can canned were always enjoyed by family and friends because she loved to share her cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Evans and Molly Ethel Shaw, her husband, Frank George Thompson, her son, George Weldon Thompson Doug, brothers, Hubert, Joel, and Glendon Wayne, and sisters, Gladyss, Merill, Vivian. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Carol and Vivian BeBe Thompson; sister, Bethal Shaw and sister and brother-in-law, Delma and Truitt Yancy; grandchildren, Doug Thompson Jr. and wife Vicki, Tommy Thompson, Carol Ann Foytik, Jody Thompson and wife Carolyn, and Kristie Bailey and husband, Ray; twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; several special friends, Lida McNeill, Leona and Frank Sebesta, Bonnie and Joe Hollinsworth and Tom Tucker. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010 in the State Room of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Pallbearers will include Cody Bronikowsky, Kyle Bronikowsky, Tommy Thompson, Jody Thompson, Doug Thompson, Heath Thompson, Wes Shoemaker and Doug Linares.
