Dorothy Jean Rogge

Dorothy Jean (Whiddon) Rogge, age 88, of Rosenberg, Texas transitioned into eternal rest at 10:15 am on January 9, 2018. She passed peacefully as she was receiving Holy Communion surrounded by her loved ones and friends. Cause of death was congested heart failure complicated by pneumonia. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Leola (Witte) Whiddon, father, Johnie Whiddon, brother, William E. Whiddon, and husband, Bennie W. Rogge. She was born in Brenham on July 25, 1929 and was brought up in a rural environment; she raised turkeys for 4H in her teen years and enjoyed participating in the annual Mayfest in Brenham. She meet her husband, Bennie, while attending Brenham High School, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. They were married in Brenham at St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 17, 1952 and enjoyed 65 years together. They had two girls, Karen Jean and Kay Lynn and lived in Houston, Galveston, Texarkana and Rosenberg. Throughout all the years, they were active in the community and Lutheran church, where Dorothy was a member of the St. Paul's Dorcas Circle and served on the Alter Guild. They loved to travel-taking trips in the US and abroad. Dorothy and Ben had yearly vegetable gardens; she canned the most delicious pickles, okra and tomatoes. Also, they grew a number of fruit trees that are still producing today and managed the 151 acre family farm; raising cattle and chickens. Dorothy was a unique individual, who brought light and joy to all she encountered-she touched lives with kindness, love and respect. She faced several difficult illnesses with an immeasurable strength and grace. Her last words to her daughters were "I love you and y'all take care." During her final years, she was blessed to have several wonderful caregivers . Bridget Cassidy was with Dorothy and Ben for seven years. During that time she cared for them with her kindness, generosity and a loving heart. Sylvia Hinojosa and Sara Abraham were with them for 2 years. They too are caregivers of outstanding compassion. Recently, Rebecca Gracia and April Yates joined the caregivers and brought their loving care to Mom. In addition, she had a very dear and special friend and neighbor in Carolyn Seiler whose love and support was truly exceptional. "Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all whoever have." Margaret Mead Survivors include, daughters Karen McClure and husband David, Kay Theede and husband Steve; grandchildren Amy Holdsworth and husband Phil, Joan Davies and husband Glenn, Anna McClure, Reid McClure and wife, Julie, John and wife Lyndsey, Nick Theede and fiancé Gena Fendley, and Ashley Hurst and husband, Jay; thirteen great grandchildren; nephews and nieces including: William Whiddon, Johnny Whiddon, and wife, Carol, Terry Ellison and husband, Eric and Robert Whiddon; along with many other family and dear friends. Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 pm, Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the State Room of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday January 12, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rosenberg. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm that afternoon at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham, Texas.
