Doris V. Grisham

Doris Vendelyn Grisham, 84, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct 15, 2009 at Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, TX. She was a devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville. Doris was a loving daughter, wife, sister, and aunt, always taking care of others before herself. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Doris, affectionately know as Aunt Doe Doe, was born in Plum, Texas on October 20, 1924. Accompanied into this world by her twin, Dorothy, these two were the youngest of the seven siblings born to Frederick and Rosalie Trlicek. Doris attended St. Jerome's Catholic Parochial School in Plum, Texas. At age 15, after the death of her parents, Doris went to live with eldest sister, Sophie, in La Grange and her twin went to live with sister, Hilda, in Needville. Doris eventually moved to Needville where she was reunited with sister Hilda, brother Roger, and twin Dorothy. She held various jobs including work at the Bon Ton Restaurant and the 5 &10 cent store in La Grange, Howard's Cafeteria in Rosenberg, Z-Bar Inn and City Club in Needville. She met and married Angus "Blackie" Grisham in 1953. They were not blessed with children, but had other children to always care for; especially her twin's children, Robert, Robbie, Freddie, RoseAnn, and DeeDee. Doris had a love of life and many wonderful times with family and friends. She was very athletic, and in her younger years she played baseball on a Needville girls' team coached by Leroy Hurta. She enjoyed family, gambling, and watching sports, especially the sports played by her nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Angus, by her parents, by her three cherished brothers; Clement of La Grange, Fred of Sugarland, and Roger "Trick" Trlicek of Needville; by her two dear sisters, Sophie Holubec of La Grange, Hilda Mladenka of Needville and by her beloved twin, Dorothy Bartosh of Needville and also by her nephew, Robert W. Bartosh of Brazoria. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, by her sister- in-law Margaret Trlicek and by cousins and numerous friends. The family will receive visitors at Greenlawn/Davis Chapel in Needville from 4pm to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 18th, 2009 with Rosary to follow at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Father Joseph Phan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center and Oak Bend Hospital both for their care and concern.
