Dessie Lillian (Koenig) Schmid

Dessie Lillian (Koenig) Schmid, of Rosenberg, Texas passed away on April 21, 2021, having recently celebrated her 101st Birthday. She was born on April 16, 1920 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Rev. Henry William and Erna Durst Koenig. Dessie attended Fredericksburg Elementary until the 3rd grade and later went on to Graduate from Marlin High School, Class of 1938. She married Theodore Walter “Cotton” Schmid on April 12, 1942. Dessie held various jobs over the years from Department Manager, receptionist and bookkeeper. She was an excellent seamstress always making dresses for her mother, daughter, and loved ones. Tending to her flower beds and yard brought great pleasure to Dessie. She was a longtime member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Richmond where she was involved in the Sojourners Ladies Group and the Office Angels. Dessie will truly be missed by all of those left behind. In addition to her parents, Dessie is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Walter “Cotton” Schmid; brothers, Wilbur Edward Koenig, Warren Eli Koenig and Stanley Harby Koenig. Survivors include her son, Bruce Allen Schmid and wife Elizabeth; daughter, Nona “Kay” Pomikal and husband, Wayne; brother, Henry William “Buddy” Koenig, Jr. and wife Carol; grandchildren, Teresa Lynn Johnson, Holly Renee Hanks and husband, Robert, Stacy Ann Kristynik and husband, Kris, and Jamie Lyn Dawson; great grandchildren, Ashlin, Brett and Drake Johnson, Kiersten Hitchcock and husband Elias, Christian, Cole and Carissa Hanks, Ava and Anna Clair Kristynik, Drew and Lily Dawson; 3 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the staff of Cambridge Square Assisted Living for their dedicated care of Mrs. Dessie. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Richmond with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Jeff Gantz to officiate. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2021, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.
