Dennis LaRue Morgan

OBITURY On January 27, 1956 God blessed Fletcher Morgan, Jr. and Alice Riggins Morgan with a son. They named him Dennis LaRue. Dennis grew up in Thompsons, Texas. Dennis was baptized at an early age at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Thompsons, Texas under the leadership of Rev. B.J. Jordan. At the time of his death he was a member of Greater Harvest Church in Fresno, Texas under the leadership of Bishop Kelvin Clark. Dennis served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Pastoral Care Committee and Men of Valor. He attended school in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District; graduating from Lamar Consolidated High School with the Class of 1974. Following graduation Dennis attended Prairie View A & M University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. After graduating from college Dennis’ love of big trucks led him to become a truck driver. On October 13, 1986 he was blessed with another love, his daughter Tiffany Renee. Dennis joined the United States Armed Forces and was assigned to the Navy base in Jacksonville, Florida. Dennis served in Navy, Air National Guard, and retired from the United States Air Force in January of 2014 after 26 years of service to our country. Dennis received a Certificate of Appreciation of a grateful nation for his contribution of honorable service in the Armed Forces of the United State of America to our country from President Barack Obama, Commander in Chief. It was while he was stationed in Jacksonville that Dennis met and fell in love with JoAnn Smith. They were united in holy matrimony on January 27, 1993. In 1997 Dennis and Joann returned to Texas and made their home in the Houston area. Dennis began a career as a truck driver for Holcomb Oil and Quality Carrier. Later Dennis went to work for the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Administration Medical Center as a phlebotomist. He transferred to Human Resources and worked there until he retired in January of 2018. Dennis had many interest including bowling, watching movies, fishing and a love for horses. Dennis was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fletcher Morgan, Jr. and Alice Riggins Morgan. Dennis' earthly journey came to an end on August 27, 2018 at the age of sixty-three years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of twenty-five years, Joann Morgan of Fresno Texas; two daughters, Tiffany Renee Morgan of Houston, Texas and Pastor Beverly Anike and son-in-law Apostle Sean Anike of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Michael Tyler; granddaughter Jade James; two sisters, Nadine Wade of San Antonio, Texas and Rita Miller of Thompsons, Texas; aunt, Juanita Williams of Houston, Texas; a loving family - The Holcomb Family along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Greater Harvest Church, 3241 Nails, Fresno, Texas.
