Cynthia Calderon Childers

Cynthia Calderon Childers, who resided in Kaufman, Texas, and spent most of her life in Houston, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 72. She was born on September 18, 1952, in Brownsville, Texas, to Jose Felix Calderon and Estefana Labrada Calderon. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Estefana, and her two beloved brothers, Jose F. Calderon Jr. and Ernesto A. Calderon. Cynthia was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 17 years, Bruce Childers. They had just celebrated their anniversary on September 20th. Their bond was unbreakable, as best friends and partners in life, even sharing birthdays just one day apart. Brucey was the love of her life, and they enjoyed playing shuffleboard and spending time with friends. Cynthia was a wonderful mother to her two daughters, Lorraine Gonzalez and Stephanie Calderon, to whom she dedicated her life’s accomplishments. She worked at the US Postal Service for 25 years. As a homemaker, she looked forward to hosting family get-togethers with beautiful decorations and cooking meals everyone would enjoy, with her pineapple upside-down cake being a family favorite. She appreciated great country music and loved dancing the night away. Cynthia also took pleasure in nature and gardening, making her own homemade jam, which her daughters and grandchildren enjoyed regularly. Cynthia lived a life full of adventure and laughter, bringing joy to everyone she encountered. She was a strong, independent woman who took pride in raising her daughters to follow in her footsteps. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she loved spending summers fishing, exploring the outdoors, playing on the trampoline, and riding the tractor with her only grandson. Her smile has left a lasting mark on our hearts. Cynthia always made sure every holiday was magical for those she loved, excelling at surprises and being the best Santa Claus. Her memory will be cherished forever. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Childers; her daughters, Lorraine Gonzalez and Stephanie Calderon; her son-in-law, Kevin Gomez; and her grandchildren, Ariel, Scarlett, and Ethan. She also leaves behind her sisters, Sylvia Garza, Gloria Calderon, and Lynda Douglass; her brother, Robert Calderon; sisters-in-law, Soila Olivarri and Kerry Calderon; as well as 40 nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends and long-time church family who will miss her dearly.
