Cecilia Frances Sliva

Services for Cecilia Frances Macha Sliva, 99, of Fairchilds will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Davis-Greenlawn Chapel in Rosenberg with the Rev. Don Ruppert of Holy Cross Catholic Church, East Bernard, officiating. Burial will be in Davis-Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the Chapel at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenberg. Mrs. Sliva passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at her home. She was born March 26, 1909, the daughter of Aliosius Alois and Marie Kamenicek Macha in Tavener, Texas, in Fort Bend County. She married Charles Frank Sliva on July 24, 1928, at Guardian Angel Church in Wallis. She was a long time member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg and KJZT No. 22 at Guardian Catholic Church in Wallis. Cecilia was raised on the family farm in Tavener and lived in East Bernard for 39 years before moving to Rosenberg in 1967. She was a devoted Christian, mother, grandma, homemaker, gardener, fisherwoman, sewer of many lovely quilts, making countless kolaches, homemade breads, cakes, candies, pies, and cookies for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved sharing her wisdom of recipes and showing how to make or bake with many of her extended family through her grandchildren. She loved playing 42 and straight dominoes; her favorite was Wahoo, especially beating her grandkids and sending them back to home base, and her shopping. She loved spending time at the Fort Bend Herald observing the work being done, as she waited on her granddaughter to finish her job. Grandma always loved her coffee, honey, bread and jelly. Her adventures included traveling to Georgetown, Austin, San Antonio, going to the zoo, movies, and the Lamar Consolidated Fillies dance competitions with all the beautiful outfits and routines. Visiting with family and friends always brought a smile, joy and fulfillment to her heart. She expressed endlessly her love for her family and friends. She moved to Fairchilds in March 1980 with her late husband to be by family. Cecilia Sliva was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frank Sliva; parents, Alois and Marie Macha; grandchildren, Katherine Dirba, Michael Dirba and Theresa Marie Sliva; brothers, Anton S. Macha, Louis J. Macha, Richard Macha, Emil Macha, Frank A. Macha, John J. Macha, Jerry Macha and William J. Macha; sisters, Emilie Riha, Lydia Petrash and Bettie Petrash; and son-in-law Raymond Dirba. Mrs. Sliva is survived by her daughter, Margaret Sliva Dirba of El Campo; a son, Charles Sliva Jr. and wife Ida of Needville; grandsons, Raymond Butch Dirba and wife Patricia Patsy, Pat of Fairchilds; Daniel Dirba of East Bernard; William Bill Dirba and wife Janet of East Bernard; and August Sliva of Rosenberg; granddaughters, Betty Enmon and husband Larry of Grapevine; Cynthia Cindy Lamensky and husband Richard of Brenham; Patricia Patsy Paulus and husband Sam of Needville; Mary Dozier and husband Mike of Sugar Land; Diane Wilkerson of Eureka Springs, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Natalie and Eric Enmon of Grapevine; Paul Dirba and wife Angel of Midland; Stephen Dirba and wife Courtney of East Bernard; Susan Dirba of Houston; Ann Dirba Sikora and husband Matt of Hungerford; Cassandra "Cassy" Lamensky of Los Angles, Calif.; Chelsy Lamensky of Brenham; Amanda Dirba of San Antonio; Kyle Dirba of East Bernard; Victoria and David Paulus of Needville; Holley and Nathan Wilkerson of Eureka Springs, Ark.; great-great-grandchildren, Bailey Austin Dirba, Joel and Jake Covarrubio of Midland; Brooke and Andrew Dirba of East Bernard; and Emilee Sikora of Hungerford. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Macha Kucera of East Bernard; sister-in-law, Louise Macha of Sealy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecilia will be dearly missed by her adopted families who took great joy and pleasure in spending time visiting. She was caring, inspirational, giving of her love and wisdom. She was "Grandma" to the Kresses, Burts, Oberrenders, Fishbecks, Carlisles, Lopezes, Riedels, New Covenant Fellowship, and Rose-Rich Community Bible Study. Pallbearers are Paul Dirba, Steven Dirba, Eric Enmon, Kyle Dirba, David Paulus and Timothy Burt. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Burt and Matthew Kresse Jr. Visitation is Monday July 28, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Boulevard FM 2218 at Highway 59, Rosenberg 281-341-8800.
