Carol Mikeska Gubbels

Carol Mikeska Gubbels 85, of Thompson, Texas passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Carol was born on August 24, 1940, in Bellville, Texas to Robert and Lillian Mikeska. After twenty years as a homemaker, she entered the workforce as a senior plant chemist for Houston Lighting and Power Company. She was a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville but raised her family at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond. Carol also enjoyed being a Cub Scouts Den Mother, sharing her knowledge and skills with many young men. She also served the town of Thompson for over 20 years on City Council, most of those as Mayor Pro-tempore. She was a Life Member of the Ft. Bend County Fair Assn. engaging in activities with the agricultural extension beekeeper group. This led Carol to become a member of the Texas Extension Education Association for 25 years earning Pecan Crop awards as well as project ribbons. Carol was a member of the Richmond Garden Club even after moving to Thompsons, frequently winning floral arrangement awards. Her interest in preservation led her to become a member of the Ft. Bend History Association. She was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and world traveling. She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren and was always there for recitals, sporting events, and graduation. Grandma Carol was always ready to load up for brunches or birthdays with family. Carol is preceded in death by her parents Lillian Hueske Mikeska and Robert Monroe Mikeska. Carol is survived by her life partner of 33 years Herman Thomas Hoot; children Jeffery Lynn Gubbels and Kimberly Kay Gubbels; granddaughters Amanda Leigh Prihoda-Brown, Rachel Gubbels Barriger, Sarah Gubbels Swanson, Hannah Lynne Gubbels, and Katherine Gubbels Okafor along with her great grandchildren James Jory Brown, Ashton James Brown, Bayleigh Rose Brown, Major Zachary Barriger, Tyler Cole Swanson, Kingston Monroe Barriger, and Sophia Elizabeth Swanson. Visitation at Davis Greenlawn in Rosenberg will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary service starting at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The family invites everyone to a reception at Schultz BBQ following the Burial. Expressions of sympathy and condolences may be shared with the family at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home.
