Billie Jones Gallagher

Our beloved father, grandfather and husband, Billie Jones Gallagher, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 2, 2008 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Dean Gallagher of Sugar Land, Texas; his son, Greg Gallagher of League City, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bill Johnson of Midland, Texas; three grandchildren, Karis, Kristen and Kyle Johnson all of Midland, Texas; his brothers, Buddy Gallagher of Jayton, Texas and Dan Gallagher of Yantis, Texas; his stepchildren, Chris Manning and wife, Jill, of Dallas, Texas and Amy Lanier and husband, Guy, of Sugar Land, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was born on March 12, 1928 near Okmulgee, Oklahoma and raised in Jayton, Texas. He was married to Doris Keirnes Gallagher for 50 years who preceded him in death in 2005. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and afterwards graduated from Texas Tech University in 1958 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked for Gulf Oil Corporation 28 years and then Chevron Oil Corporation until his retirement in 1988. During that time, he and his family resided in Midland for 20 years before transferring to Houston in 1985. After his retirement, Bill was a charter member of the Sugar Land AARP Chapter 4075 and became an AARP Driver Safety Course instructor for 18 years teaching over 3000 students. He went on to become a coordinator for AARP Driver Safety instructors in the Houston area. Bill was an active member of Williams Trace Baptist Church in Sugar Land where he was instrumental in the development of the Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. Bill married Dean Manning of Sugar Land in 2007. Because of his kindness and selfless service, Bill will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M., Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M., Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Williams Trace Baptist Church in Sugar Land. Interment will be held at 11:00 A. M., Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Jayton Cemetery in Jayton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Building Fund at Williams Trace Baptist Church of Sugar Land, 16755 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas, 77479.
