Bessie (Straznicky) Deiss

Bessie (Straznicky) Deiss, 97, of Needville, Texas passed away on September 11, 2017. She was born November 16, 1919 in Needville, Texas. She married Leroy Deiss on March 23, 1940 and they were married for 60 years. Bessie was a homemaker that used her talents to help others. She loved taking care of her family whether it was cooking, sewing, baking and preparing meals. Her hobbies included camping, hunting and fishing with her family. She especially loved to dance and enjoyed listening to Czech music. She had a great sense of humor, was loyal, feisty and ornery at times. Bessie mowed grass until she was 90 and lived independently up until April. She was a sweet and kind lady who would help anyone. This loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend will be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Angie Straznicky; stepmother, Emma Straznicky; husband, Leroy Deiss, Sr.; granddaughter, Michele Deiss Ratcliff; sister, Marcella Schwettman; brothers, Benny & Henry Straznicky and dear friend, Pearl Pasteka. Survivors include sons, Leroy Jr. and wife, Alice, Douglas and wife, Helen; grandchildren, Stephen Deiss (Laura), Patrick Deiss (Nisha), David Deiss (Jennifer), Tracey Sackman (Steve); great grandchildren, Thaddeus & Travis Deiss, Darinka & Alanna Mejia, Katelyn, Tyler & Kamryn Deiss, Justin & Carley Ratcliff; brother, Emil Straznicky; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Pallbearers will include Bessie’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will include Jeanette & Floyd Psencik, Page & Peggy Mund, John Svec, Mike Pasteka, Mike Pritchett and Terry Meuth.
