Barbara Lou Boek

Barbara Lou Boek entered the gates of heaven on April 13, 2024. She was the youngest child of Jay Dee Sr and Frances Hicks of Houston Texas. Her parents, her brother Jay Dee Jr, and two sisters, Jackie Hynes and Verna Mae Patton precede her in death, as well as her husband of 46 years, H.C.“Buddy” Boek. Barbara met Buddy at the University of Houston, where he played football and she was a cheerleader and a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Barbara is survived by her sweet sister in law, Martha Urban. Barbara will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Cindy Duffy and husband Tim, and Vicky Bergman and husband Andy. She was a much loved Nana to Dallas Duffy and wife Elizabeth, Meagan Burgin and husband Brett, Will Morris and Brent and Kaylee Bergman. She had 5 great grandchildren who were such a joy to her - Boek, Pepper and Cooper Duffy and Walker and Hicks Burgin. Barbara also leaves behind nieces and nephews who were special to her and many caring friends who were a huge part of her life. Barbara was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church. She was past President of the Houston Junior Forum, The Ladies Reading Club, The Guild of Houston Christian University, and The Bluebird Circle. She used her many talents of helping people during a lifetime of volunteering. Barbara never met a stranger. She was the ultimate party planner and her gracious manner, hospitality and genuine warmth will always be remembered. Her quick smile and unlimited capacity for encouragement made each person feel special. She was indeed, a very special person herself. Every room was a little brighter and more fun when Barbara was there. We will miss her greatly. A memorial celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston Texas on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:00 (fellowship will begin at 12:00). A reception will be held immediately following at Carrabba’s at 1399 S.Voss Road, Houston, Texas. Barbara was always impeccably dressed and it was her wish that bright colors be worn to her memorial to truly celebrate her life and happy personality. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to the Houston Christian University Scholarship Fund in the name of H.C. (Buddy) Boek or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
