Alice Newman Silvas

Alice N. Silvas joined St. John Fisher Church in 1969. Ms. Silvas became an LVN in 1971 with 10 children. Her words were: "if I can accomplish nursing school with 10 children than anyone can do it". She was a member of the "Texas League of Vocational Nurses", President of the Fort Bend League of Licensed Vocational Nurses Association, she was also voted in as a nominates for "Nurse of the Year" for Texas, The Rosenberg Business & Professional Women, LULAC, Recipient of the 1986 Jefferson Award of Channel 13. Recipient of the Fort Bend County Exchange Club "Golden Deed Award", Recipient of the Fort Bend County Amigo Club Award, Recipient of the Richmond State School Blue Star Award, Served on the Board of Fort Bend County Texana (committee for mentally and physically challenged), Served as Presiding Judge for the Voter Registration Board Committee (T.L. Pink Elementary), Serves as Director of St. Vincent DePaul social Ministry at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Serves as Coordinator for the Interfaith Care Partners Program, Para los Ninos- a child abuse center for children Chairperson of the Charismatic Program of the Catholic Church of St. John Fisher, Member of "The Guadalupanos" St. John Fisher -visiting nursing homes for the elderly providing spiritual and material things, Member of the Catholic Charity of Richmond, Developed a tutoring class in English and Spanish for persons waiting for amnesty. Other accomplishments include: Working at Richmond State School, Developing a Head Start program for the Richmond community, Homebound Eucharistic Ministries. Member of the Bereavement Committee, Social Ministries Director: Served the community with turkeys for Thanksgivings, Served the community with toys for Christmas from St John Fisher Church & St. Lawrence. She also Served the community with shoes for children starting school, Served the community to find aid for elderly, disabled by finding homes ,help with clothing, food, shelter and financial relief. Survivors include her children, Francisco Silvas Jr Madrguerite Silvas & husband Tim Lough Linda Ormsby & husband Kevin Ormsby Lucy Gutierrez & husband Reynaldo Gutierrez Eloy Silvas & wife Allison Silvas Mary Silvas Janie Arismendez & husband Richard Arismendez Dora Silvas Patricia Pena & husband Demasico Pena numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by: Francisco L Silvas Sr., Alice Silvas Jr, Blanca Alicia Vasquez and Jakub Silvas. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Richmond with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
