Alice Cecile (Hruby) Hicks

Alice Cecile (Hruby) Hicks, 94, passed away August 27, 2018, at the Landon Ridge Memory Care Home in Sugar Land, TX, peacefully in her sleep. She was born October 24, 1923 to Frank and Antonia Hruby on Nesvedba Farm in Needville. She lived in Sugar Land for 41 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Survivors include her only son, Billy G. Hicks, of Sugar Land, whom they adopted as their own son when he was 3 days old. She is also survived my numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends whom she all loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Robert, and her siblings, Edmund, Victor, Annie, and Mary. After growing up on the Hruby farm in Needville, she moved to Houston and worked at the Folger’s Coffee Company, and met her husband, Robert, when they married on April 26, 1948 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville. They continued to live in Houston and she moved on to work at Montgomery Ward’s department store in Palm Center, and finally worked at MacGregor Clinic on Post Oak and then Stafford when Billy went to high school. Alice loved her family and friends, and always loved to travel around Texas to support her son’s high school softball teams. Her and Robert were always seen at the high school games at Snyder, Brazosport, Sweeny, La Grange, and A&M Consolidated while Billy was the coach. His players loved seeing them at the games cheering for them to win. She was also a member of the KJZT Society #49 in Needville and was a regular at the St. Theresa’s Sugar Canes and Gathering Place meetings. Pallbearers for Alice’s funeral are Don Pisklak, Ron Pisklak, Greg Hruby, Downey Griffin, Jesse Ayala, Jerry Hicks, Kenneth Hicks, and Matthew Oren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Sugar Land with burial to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm, with a Rosary recited at 7:00, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The family thanks the staff at the Landon Ridge Memory Care Facility and Brookdale Hospice Care for their wonderful and compassionate care for Alice for the past 15 months.
